Larry Stackhouse Jr. has been missing since December 2, 2005.

Six years after their 19-year-old son disappeared without a trace, Lorraine and Larry Stackhouse Sr. have not wavered in their quest to find out what happened.

"My wife and I will never give up. We will always fight to get this case resolved," Larry Stackhouse Sr. told The Huffington Post.

Larry Stackhouse Jr. was last seen the evening of Dec. 2, 2005, when he left his parents' Syracuse, N.Y., home to attend a basketball game at Christian Brothers Academy in DeWitt. The teen planned to attend the game with a friend he had known since elementary school.

"We know he attended the game because friends of mine saw him there, but he never returned home," his father said. "The friend he went with later said he dropped my son off at a store by our home."

When the Stackhouses were unable to locate their son, they filed a missing person report with police. They told investigators it was out of character for their son to take off without notifying them.

"We know that someone knows what happened," said Lorraine Stackhouse.

During the early stages of the investigation, it quickly became apparent that police had no solid clues or suspects in the case. With little else to do, the Stackhouse family handed out missing-person flyers and waited for leads from the public. To their surprise, it was not long before the tips started to pour in.

The friend who accompanied Stackhouse to the basketball game allegedly changed his initial story, telling the Stackhouses that their son was involved in an altercation with a group of Native Americans at Corcoran High School. The tip was passed on to police, according to Stackhouse Sr.

A young woman who attended Corcoran High in Syracuse told the school's principal she overheard two individuals brag about killing Stackhouse and disposing of his body on land belonging to the Onondaga Nation. Police questioned the young woman, but said she was incompetent, according to the Stackhouses.

A similar story was told to Stackhouse Sr. in a letter from a jail inmate who claimed to have overheard conversations about the killing. Again, he passed the tip on to police.

"We have followed up on a number of leads that have indicated he is on the reservation. We have not ruled out that possibility, but we still don't have anything concrete," Syracuse Police Department Chief Frank Fowler told HuffPost.

Fowler declined to elaborate on any leads his office has investigated.

In regard to a possible motive, the Stackhouses heard their son was suspected of taking $700 worth of marijuana from his killers. Neither believes that to be the case.

"My son worked at a nursing home. He was never involved in gang activity or anything like that. He was a good kid," Stackhouse's father said. "We raised him up to be respectable. My wife and I have modest jobs and he hung out with very positive people. He was leading by example. He was working and staying focused."

Lorraine Stackhouse agreed and shared similar praises about her son. "I never found anything in his room pertaining to drugs, guns or anything like that. We raised him up in church. Everyone loved him," she said.

The Stackhouses' fear that their son may never be found has been compounded by frustration with local media outlets.

"The media would never give us an opportunity to state our story," Stackhouse Sr. said. "My son, for example, had an outstanding loud music and a seat belt ticket. He never got them taken care of and when he came up missing, they made it sound like he was running from the law. These were misdemeanors but yet they put it out there like he was a real criminal. It disturbed us."

Until now, the Stackhouses have been unable to get national media attention for their son's case. "We have received denial letters from just about everybody," Stackhouse Sr. said.

The family has also been unable to garner any support from politicians. The Stackhouses have sent letters to senators, governors, congressman and even civil rights activist Al Sharpton, but have yet to receive any response or follow-through.

"We're stuck. We've been reaching out, trying to find someone to be a voice for us and we can't," Lorraine Stackhouse said.

The heartbroken mother said she is also upset with her local community.

"It takes a community to get action," she said. "Just like (Trayvon Martin), the little boy who just got killed. You see how the rallies and those types of stands are heard, but if you just have a family, no one is going to listen and that's where we are at."

The investigation into Larry Stackhouse Jr.'s disappearance has been placed with the Syracuse Police Department Cold Case Squad. But authorities said the case is still being actively investigated.

"I'm glad and grateful for the attention (The Huffington Post) is showing for the case, and it's our hope this may prompt someone to come forward with the information that we need to bring closure to the Stackhouse family," Fowler said.

The Stackhouses are also hopeful for new leads. But, for now, their sad vigil continues. "It is so hard not knowing what happened to our child," Stackhouse Sr. said. "I try to keep a smile on my face but it hurts deep inside not knowing what happened."

Larry Darnell Stackhouse Jr. would be 25 today. At the time of his disappearance, he was 5 feet 10 inches tall, 170 pounds, with short black hair and brown eyes. His left ear was pierced and he had a tattoo of the name "Larry" on his right arm. He was last seen wearing a long-sleeved, white T-shirt, with a short-sleeved black T-shirt over it, blue jeans and tan-colored Timberland boots.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact the Syracuse Police Department at 315-442-5222. Anonymous tips can be submitted via blackandmissinginc.com.

I think you should contact TVOne to find out how this young man's story can appear on "Find Our Missing." Although I shed tears for all missing people, as an African American young lady, I see the unequal attention African american children receive when they go missing. Find Our Missing is geared only towards African american missing persons (so ar mostly children and young adults), and places emphasis on all leads up until the cold point. I think you could also use social networks such as facebook and twitter (or ask a family member to monitor the pages if you dont know how), in order to reach the public. Believe it or not, great things can happen when you reach out to the least expected. Forget about the heavy hitters for now such as Sharpton and Jackson, and look toward the little people, like us who are every day joe's. I will pray in the name of Jesus your son is returned to your family!

I empathize with the Stackhouse family. There son simply disappeared from their lives and they want answers. This piece suggests that the police have follow-up on the leads with not real results. Every day local newspapers carry reports about missing persons. The articles usually provide a tip-line that people can call with information. Sometimes a reward is offered. It is up the Stackhouse family to keep their son’s disappearance in the news and not the other way around. Statistics show that most cold cases are solved as a result of information discovered while investigating a current case or someone voluntarily coming forward due to problems of conscious. Maybe one of Larry’s friends will eventually come forward with what actually happened on the night in question.

I would start with getting my cell phone or flip camera or any video camera and have the parents describe their son, show his pictures and list what little they know. People need to see a face, not a picture, but a video of the anguish the parents are going through. Trayvon's Mom appeared on camera and when they saw her, so much more compassion and anger to his tragedy came out in spades.
Upload the video on your own YouTube channel with Larry's picture as your background.
Create a facebook & twitter page, link them all up so you are doing a sort of cross promoting. I can help you with this, just reply to this message and we can get the ball rolling. Go to craigslist and in the rants section and general discussions, write a post about this issue with a link to this Huffington Post page. Google captures the Craigslist postings in 48 hours or less and it lands on the top page. Anyone who googles Larry Stackhouse, will immediately see it. None of this costs anything, except time, I am more than eager to help. I can get all this done for you in less than 24 hours. At some point, the media will take notice and it will get the coverage it deserves. Nancy Grace would love to get her paws on this story- contact her via email. I cannot express how sorry I am for your pain.

May justice prevail in your loss. Although, many years have passed, keep your dream alive. You two are in my prayers.

What is the matter with our society, that the media gets to pick what families we care about, and blast there story all over the news, yet ones like this one get nothing. Shame on us for being so stupid. Any child that is missing regardless should get as much attention as possible. I am the mother of 2 adult children and if one of them went missing, you would know about it for sure. Mr. and Mrs. Stackhouse as a parent and as a human being I apologize for our behaviour and I wish you nothing but the best in your search for your son.

We have a huge problem when as a nation if the family's assumption of the case not getting attention because of tickets the boy had is a fact. That is just sick.

I wonder if Jim Kenyon in Syracuse would be willing to do a story about this. There is a commercial airing frequently about Kenyon being able to get things done because of his
investigative reporting.

I was made aware of the Treyvon Martin case through change.org. The Martin family really had to fight for justice and to keep it from being swept under the rug.

Maybe the Stackhouse's could start a petition to garner more attention to their cause.

I would be willing to send an email to Jim Kenyon. Could you, or someone else, just list the most important points of this story for me to relay to him?

And don't comment when you do not understand the history and reason for the emphasis on race with the organizations you have mentioned. There is a reason for the emphasis on race, which you would understand if you compare the prominent cases of missing people that arise and receive national attention vs. the attention paid to minority missing people and the amount of publicity those cases receive

If one was to go on the missing cases that are prominently highlighted on national news outlets, you would think that people of color go missing once or twice a year, while there is a new case almost every month of white missing persons, especially white girls.

It's clear to many of us that missing white children, women get the most media attention. It's sad, but true.

Can they get a search warrant to go out to where the body is suppose to be located with dogs--he may truly be buried there.

Doesn't sound as though there is sufficient evidence for a search warrant and on top of that you'd need to get consent form the BIA. Keep in mind that an Indian Reservation is a sovereign nation.

It sounds as though the little bits and pieces of information that investigator's have gotten was dismissed too quickly. There's always a grain of truth in stories even if the person doesn't seem "competent."

The parents may be in some denial about their son's activities and things he was doing. Good people who are raised right can still be involved in some bad activity. Saying he wouldn't be involved with anything to do with pot is a bit naive. It's a possibility and they shouldn't completely rule that out because they think they raised him right. Good kids can still smoke pot, can still stay out of trouble, and still smoke pot.

Six years is a long time not knowing anything. I hope this awareness helps the family find the answer's they are looking for.

I was wondering what that word "incompetent" meant in this context. Seems to me that they may have misused a word- she was probably not a credible witness, which might sound like it's mincing words but definitely has a more meaningful connotation.

And I definitely agree with you regarding his behavior. I knew quite a few people in high school that were very good kids. They weren't bad people, didn't cause trouble, but definitely participated in recreational drug use. One in particular was a wonderful guy, had been drafted to a pro baseball team, all his dreams were coming true, and died after taking something bad one night at a party surrounded by friends. Not a troublemaker, just stupid. We need to get more real about these kids' behavior. Pretending they can't possibly be involved in something like that because it carries this inaccurate stigma can only hinder an investigation like this. I hope somehow this family is allowed some form of closure eventually.

It is very bothersome that this has gone unnoticed. You need to get Mrs. Drexell involved. Unfortunatly she is white so they will listen if she gets invovled. Her daughter went missing in florida. Recently in Rochester NY where she is from a young black teen Larie butler went missing, unfortunatly lost her life, but Mrs. Drexell was able to help because her daughters plight went nation wide, she was able to help the family. Also you may want to contact the show the view they have been helpful in assisting Black families locate the missing. I wish you well and closure to this terrible situation. God Bless ...Larry Stackhouse Jr.
