Kendrec McDade Rally In Pasadena: The Teen's Tearful Father Speaks Out (VIDEO)

"Somebody cut him down for no reason... As long as I've got life in my body I'm going to find out what happened to my son."

These are the words of Kenneth McDade, father of Kendrec McDade, the unarmed 19-year-old who was fatally shot by Pasadena police on March 24.

About 150 people gathered at Pasadena City Hall Tuesday evening to call for justice for McDade and to call shed light on what they say is ongoing abuse by police towards young black men, the Pasadena Sun reports. The protestors carried candles and signs displaying the names of other men who were also killed by Pasadena police in the past.

The teen's father, mother and grandmother were all present. While McDade's mother fought back tears, his father told the crowd that it's been difficult to explain what happened to his son's siblings, who are now afraid of the police. Mr. McDade's words can be heard in the video below.

One protestor told KPCC that she doesn't buy the officers' account that they shot the teen because he reached for his waistband. She said that that excuse seems to be a reoccurring theme. "To me, that's getting to be an old hat," the woman said. "One gets away with that story and then another one comes along and uses it."

The McDades' attorney, Carree Harper, said to the crowd of protestors, “There is a cover up amongst us and we need to get to the bottom of it. Because until we get to the bottom of it, it’s going to keep coming and tomorrow it might be your son,” CBS reports. In addition to investigations by the FBI, Pasadena Police and two county agencies, Harper has called for a probe from the U.S. Department of Justice's Civil Rights Division.

On Tuesday, new evidence in the case was released from a meeting that Pasadena police Chief Phillip Sanchez had with civic leaders Saturday, the San Gabriel Valley Tribune reports. While Sanchez previously had unequivocally said that McDade's alleged burglary was caught on videotape, he said at the meeting Saturday that only still photographs had been taken. The department has declined to release the photos.
