Gingrich: 'One Of Those Goofy Things' ... A Bounced Check

Newt Gingrich, speaking Wednesday after a campaign stop in Delaware, said the bouncing of a $500 check for the Utah elections was "one of those goofy things."

"That check was drawn in December," he said, according to CNN. "The account actually was closed by the time they processed it. It wasn't a question of money -- that particular bank account was closed."

The Salt Lake Tribune first reported Tuesday on the bounced check. The report noted that previous attempts to reach the campaign by phone and email had not gotten a response.

The Utah lieutenant governor's office told The Huffington Post Wednesday that the Gingrich campaign said it planned to send the funds Wednesday.

Multiple Gingrich vendors, meanwhile, told Arthur Delaney and Dave Jamieson of The Huffington Post that they are wondering whether they will paid weeks or months after finishing their work.

The former House speaker acknowledged Sunday that his campaign was "slightly less" than $4.5 million in debt.
