Prom's hottest look this season will be pairing your tiara with jammies; not ones of the flannel Sponge Bob pants kind, but silky nightwear, a la Rachel Roy.
"Girls who are emulating Rooney Mara’s rebel cool and perhaps, in the past, wouldn’t have gone to prom are now going to show up in gender-bending, laid back looks sported by celebrities like Janelle Monáe and her signature tuxedo, or presented in Louis Vuitton’s 2012 resort collection co-designed by Sofia Coppola."
It's true: celebs like Salma Hayek and Rihanna have trailblazed the pajamas-as-daywear look, making it a teensy bit on-trend to rock jammies in places other than the confines of your own house.
We couldn't help but notice that the WSJ is dogging the pajamas beat. In January, teens wear flannel pants to school. And now, the paper says that sleepwear has infiltrated its way to the most formal of high school events.
But then in March, there was the story on schools cracking down on too-revealing prom dresses. So, what are teen girls going to be wearing this season? Too-sexy dresses? Pajamas? Too-sexy pajamas? Will people soon be showing up in just bras and thongs?
Either way, we're kind of glad it's been a good ten years since our prom days -- somehow we remember dressing for the big dance being a whole lot simpler.

this is not news. Women in Japan started this fad, not U.S. celebs. I think it's a lazy habit. But, I supposed it's better than women wearing the same thing over and over - - - - -jeans. I'm sick of seeing women and men wear nothing but jeans to everyplace they go

Women were ladies, now there are few ladies! They are obsessed with sex and showing off their bodies. Recreational sex and vulgar language are now the norm. Where can we go to see the beautiful, well dressed, well spoken, intelligent, educated, moral and desirable women? Damn, I miss them

I dont care what ppl wear in public. I personally do not own pjs, as I wear whatever to bed, such as nothing, a tanktop and underwear, or my jeans. Who is to say pajamas cannot be outside wear? Also, what IS wrong with being comfortable? I laugh at women who wear heels. You guys look stupid, walking around like absolute nuts. You cant walk right and complaIN that you're feet hurt. Their is no purpose to so,me of the clothes being worn today, such as tight jeans and stupid high shoes.

This isn't and black & white (all or nothing) topic. It DEPENDS on the type of pajamas, style, event, age, etc. Tell you a little story - I'm 55 now - and I'm a PLUS SIZE woman. About 10 years ago I went shopping looking for a satiny type top to wear with black slacks to an event. Almost everything I found that was attractive and fit nicely also came with a big price-tag.
I was just about ready to say the heck with it, when I happened to walk by the pajama and night gown area. The first thing that caught my eye was a beautiful pair of satiny pajamas with a leopard print top and black bottoms. I tried on the top and it fit perfectly and looked lovely. I wore it to the event and got so many compliments on my "beautiful, flowing blouse". Total price for the SET of pajamas? $17.00.

Every day I see a woman wearing her pj's out in public. It's the HEIGHT of laziness not to mention disgustingly dirty and nasty! If you are too lazy to get dressed and join the civilized world, STAY HOME WE DON'T NEED YOU OR YOUR BED BUGS!

I don't understand why more people aren't emotionally comfortable with physically comfortable clothes. The whole "leggings aren't pants" crowd, people who judge pjs in public, they all have miserable lives and want the rest of us to be miserable, too. Personally, I'm making it my goal to spend the vast majority of my time in yoga pants, day and night, at home and out. It's a serious perk of being self-employed. After trying that for a while, the idea of putting on stiff pants with a button and zipper seems like unnecessary torture! That said, places where the proceedings require gravitas, like temples and courthouses, or places where my family will be, are worth going to the trouble of putting on grown-up clothes.

Kasha, very well stated and I agree with you 100%! What's wrong with being happy and comfortable. Life is too short to be miserable and uptight about little things. You have to live your life to the fullest and enjoy every second as though it was going to be your last. F&F
Grunt1969: Kasha, very well stated and I agree with you 100%!
I don't have any problems finding clothing that is physically comfortable without resorting to wearing PJs in public. I take pride in my appearance.
As far as I'm concerned, wearing PJs in public is beyond sloppy and inappropriate, but if that's what people want to do, that's their choice. They are the ones who look bad, not me.
And no, I don't have a "miserable life" nor do I wish misery on others. I just don't want to see PJs worn in public.

I wore pjs to Jr High back in the 1960's. Now I live in my pjs, only getting dressed if I have too. I have worn black silk VS pjs to work and to church.

trust me, if this fad turns to normal, the nighties these girls wear will go way up in price and someone will eventually say " I can get a nice gown for that price"

I heartily approve. All you have to do is look at the pictures of the gorgeous lingerie and nightwear shown in catalogues ,many designer made With appropriate undergarments and of course the perfect body...why not?
