James Cameron is one of the most successful filmmakers of all time, holding the No. 1 and No. 2 positions -- for "Avatar" and "Titanic" -- on the list of the highest-grossing films.
And now that he has created a 3-D version of "Titanic," James is revealing which other movies should follow suit and addressing Kate Winslet's comments that she wants to "throw up" whenever she hears that often-played classic "Titanic" theme song.
"All I could think was Celine [Dion] is going to be pissed,” Cameron told me when I asked him on the set of "New York Live" about Winslet’s recent remarks about the song Dion recorded.
“Conversion has a place and it’s a place for films we know and love -- 'Star Wars,' 'Jaws,' I would love to see 'The Godfather' in 3-D," Cameron observed.
"But it has to be done by the filmmaker," he added. "It has to be done by the director because there are so many creative choices that have to be made and it has to be done right. And the studio's got to be willing to spend the money to do it right.”
The notorious perfectionist admitted that he had concerns about creating a 3-D version of "Titanic" but that once the commitment was made, there was no turning back. Along with more than 300 computer artists, Cameron painstakingly transformed his masterpiece, frame by frame.
“Any kind of intimate stuff between the characters, you feel much more physically present when you're watching a movie in 3-D," Cameron explained. "So you're on the ship; you're with Jack and Rose and the other characters. I think 'Terminator 2' would rock in 3-D. But 'Aliens' -- because of the claustrophobia -- might be a little too intense."
