Sarah Palin: Hilary Rosen Comments 'Awakened Many Mama Grizzlies'

Posted: 04/13/2012 9:46 am Updated: 04/13/2012 9:46 am

Sarah Palin Hilary Rosen

Mama grizzlies are back, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R) said Thursday, and all it took was a non-stop news cycle of suggestions that they might be under attack.

Speaking with Sean Hannity of Fox News, Palin said that the comments made by Democratic strategist and former Huffington Post employee Hilary Rosen on Ann Romney, the wife of GOP front-runner Mitt Romney, had "awakened" apolitical mothers around the nations. Rosen said on Wednesday that Ann Romney had "never worked a day in her life," referring to whether she understood women's economic struggle. Romney has been a key surrogate for her husband on the issue, as some question whether Republicans have alienated women voters.

"Why is it that some on the left choose to divide, to incite with comments like that, instead of just respecting women's choices and what they want to do with the gifts that God has given them?" Palin said, claiming that Rosen had the "ear of the president," a charge that the White House has explicitly denied.

Romney, like Palin, is a mother of five children, and the former vice presidential candidate saw some irony in Rosen's criticism.

"Let me share with you a quick text my sister had sent to me," Palin told Hannity. "She said, 'Oh, wait, didn't these people slam you, who are the same ones slamming Ann Romney, because she stayed at home with five kids. Didn't they slam you for not staying at home with your five kids?'"

She continued, "It’s obviously not a mom thing they're slamming, it's a conservative thing."

Democrats and officials in the Obama campaign have spared no effort to distance themselves from Rosen's comments, even after her apology to Romney and plea for an end to the "faux war" against moms. President Obama, Michelle Obama, Vice President Joe Biden and others in the campaign and administration have all spoken out to clarify that they believe being a mom is an incredibly important and difficult job.

It is such a pity that the media attacked with such ferocity, this amazing woman. But don't worry, she's far from gone. I would suggest the uninformed watch the documentary The Undefeated, it will be a real eye opener. Took all the hits and came back swinging, did what was best for her state and always put the people of Alaska first. This is a strange phenomenon, a politician who actually does her job, cut the budget, saved the tax payers money, could not be bought by big oil and kept her integrity. She has nothing to hide, they can't do any more to her but she has launched the biggest and most effective wave of holding politicians feet to the fire, the Tea Party. Not Dem, not Repub, every one is held accountable for their actions and their voting record. It's not about social issues, it's the economy stupid.
I'm so disappointed in the women of this country for not jumping out of their seats to defend any woman who emerges on the political landscape of this country with strong American ideals and opinions and is called the most despicable names, has her family criticized, her learning disabled child attacked. I've never seen such hatred and where were the repubs to defend her? Hiding behind big oil perhaps? They certainly had no love for her, ever wonder why? A wonderful lesson for our daughters to watch what was done to her. Think about that ladies.

WHAT are you talking about? Are you suggesting that because I call this one woman a liar that this applies to ALL women? Explain.

This Mama Grizzly understood (and agreed with) Ann Rosen's statement. I was far more riled by Ann Romney's insensitive response. And SP, you really shouldn't use the royal plural.

Of goody.... Another mom that has the CHOICE to either stay-at-home or work outside the home has something to say!
Hey Sarah, I've got something to say... You made the wrong choice! You should have stayed at home to keep an eye on your kids. Maybe then you wouldn't have an unmarried daughter and illegitimate grandchild on your hands. Oh, and you would have had some time to read newspapers.

A stay at home mom is to be respected, that being said I know plenty of mom who work and raise the kids. And I wanna know has she HELD A JOB OUTSIDE THE HOUSE? They never answer that. My mom would have loved to stay home, but she HAD to work to make ends meat.

Dear Anne, I'm also a cancer survivor, and I have Multiple Sclerosis. I'm a mother, and I worked most of my life. The difference between us? Often, I had no health insurance to obtain care for the same conditions I am sure you received top notch care for. Also, I was a working mom both inside and outside the home. Not only did I have a job, but I was the primary caregiver at home, and I had no maids, no cooks, no gardeners, no personal trainers, no chauffeurs, masseuses. I did it the way 99% of American mothers do it - on my own. Hilary was right, you have never worked a day in your life in any way remotely close to the way the rest of us work. So no, you do not understand the experience or perspective of American women. Stay at home mom, working mom, and filthy rich mom are all three very different things.

And I quote:

"Ann Romney has been very active in working with young women and encouraging them to get an education so that they can support their future children. Hilary Rosen is a homosexual, so if she has kids---well, who knows how they got here! And, she has worked for Obama--she has been to the White House for meetings three dozen times! She is also feeling the heat and has canceled an appearance this weekend on Meet the Press--guess she isn't feeling so warm and fuzzy about the Obamas after they threw her under the bus."

If true, then exactly WHO do you believe ROSEN represents?

The point is that as a "divorced" lesbian who adopted kids, her target audience is extremely small. Clearly by her own words, she not only doesn't represent any stay at home mom, but she despises them. She doesn't represent single mothers who bore children because she can't even begin to understand motherhood, much less single mothers. Even on the ultra-left-wing Washington Post, 95% disagree with her. It seems that the biggest concentration of her supporters are here and on MSNBC, which probably puts her at less than 1% of all Americans, compared to 50-95% of those who agree with Anne Romney.

So the very person who claimed that Anne Romney can't possibly represent women is 50-95 times more popular with women than Hilary is.

A view from across the pond : Ann Romney has the wealth of her husband Mitt and has had many nannies to support, she has no idea how it is for the majority of working mothers who have to juggle home and work. Palin is as usual just as stupid as usual, the broach she is wearing says it all "HOOAH" and that is exactly what it is, she is a spent force, and only the Fox News Channel aka Faux News the Murdoch T/Republican Channel would give her air time. Sarah dear just go away as quickly as possible and keep taking the medication you so obviously need.

As a man who managed in earlier times to provide and raise my kids with their mother at home until they had finished hi-school, I would never make the mistake of saying " stay at home mom's don't work", my head would have been on a platter! Ms. Rosen was basically saying that very thing. In todays world young mothers may wish to be home with their children and find it is not possible if they want to have a roof and food. Luckily Ms. Romney never faced that situation, she grew up wealthy and married into wealth, nothing wrong there. But please stop the lies about what Ms. Rosen meant, when we all know exactly what she meant,ok.

My wife did work, because she wanted to, but she added only 5% to the household income, which wasn't even enough to pay the extra expenses associated with her working. The Census Bureau estimates that the average contribution of working wives to household income is 18% (which is about what my own experience says is what was added to the household budget to enable her to work).

Even a majority of single mothers agree that this is not the ideal way to raise children, so why is it so widely accepted (and believed) that having wives work does anything positive, either for the household, or for the economy?

What Rosen SAID is "she never worked a day in her life", and this is a LIE.

Let me make sure I understand your post, wife insisted on working even though it cost you $ instead of making $? Correct? Next, majority of "single" women agree this is not best way to raise children! Well it probably isn't when you are a single mother, probably lower pay since women always get less for the same work, and no mate to help at home. That statement is probably true but not for the reasons you mean. Now, Ms. Rosen's comment: if you believe that is "exactly" what she meant, "she never worked a day in her life", period. Well you could be honest and admit you actually do understand what Ms. Rosen "MEANT". OR CONTINUE TO KEEP YOUR HEAD IN THE SAND, your choice.

What Rosen MEANT is; Ann Romney "never worked a day in her life" in a FULL TIME-40 HOUR A WEEK JOB FOR A LONG TIME. Ann Romney also didn't have to worry about paying someone to take care of the children when they were sick when you worked; nor worry about getting the laundry done after woking 8-10 hrs a day; or having enough money to buy groceries you needed; or having enough to pay the mortgage; or having enough time/energy to clean the house the way you want to; or getting fired if you missed too many days; or worry about having money to fix your car/transportation to work when it breaks down; or having enough money to keep the car/truck tank full to GET to work; or ........so many more things.

No, she did not make it about herself, she pointed out that its a liberal view no matter what you do, staying home, or not staying home. The liberals will put you down no matter what.

Baloney. Liberals say women should have the choice of staying home or going out to work. Conservatives for years and years have said that women with children should stay at home with them.

What Rosen meant, and it's entirely true, is that Ann Romney never, a day in her life, *had* to go out and earn a living in order to support her children. She doesn't understand what that's like.

And if she *chose* to stay at home and raise them, I want to know how many nannies and maids and governesses helped.

Nah; she interjected HERSELF into the story (as usual)..!

-- Peggy Noonan once wrote of Palin:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/07/10/peggy-noonan-goes-off-on_n_229564.html

"She was limited in her ability to explain and defend her positions, and sometimes in knowing them"

"...she didn't read anything."

"She wasn't thoughtful enough to know she wasn't thoughtful enough."

And, the point of relevance to Palin (and this story):
"Her presentation up to the end has been scattered, illogical, manipulative and SELF-referential to the point of SELF-reverence"
