Man Stole From Woman At Funeral, Stuffed Items In Underwear: Cops

An Indiana man was caught red-handed allegedly stealing a woman's purse at a funeral and then stuffing its contents into his underwear.

The Herald Bulletin reported that 25-year-old Derek Culbertson went to a funeral service in Anderson and allegedly picked up a woman's purse, which contained $105, credit cards and identification.

An unidentified witness apparently saw Culbertson rummage through the purse and followed him into a church bathroom. The witness got several other people at the funeral home and barged into the bathroom, where they blocked the door and held Culbertson until police arrived, according to RTV-6.

Cops said they found the contents of the victim's purse stashed in Culbertson's unmentionables. He was also allegedly carrying Adderall and Lunesta pills, both prescription medications for which he did not have prescriptions, cops said.

The items were returned to the victim, who had traveled from Minnesota to attend the funeral.

Culbertson was charged with theft and possession of a controlled substance, and booked into jail where he was held on a $5,000 bond, according to WISH-TV.

It wasn't immediately clear whether he had any relation to funeral attendees.
