Sierra LaMar Search Expanded To 2 More Reservoirs

Police looking for missing California teen Sierra LaMar will widen their search to include two reservoirs near the girl's home.

Sierra LaMar hasn't been seen since she vanished en route to her high school bus stop on March 16. Police breathed new hope -- albeit faintly -- into the investigation by saying that undisclosed evidence they've found has given them fresh leads as they hunt for the 15-year-old from Morgan Hill, station KTVU reported.

Police wouldn't specify what they turned up, but an official told KTVU that it related to evidence sent to their crime lab for tests.

Sonar imaging will aid cops as they scan Calero and Anderson reservoirs later this week, the Los Angeles Times reported. It will be their second round of underwater exploration for the missing cheerleader -- last week police dove into two other nearby reservoirs.

The decision search the water was to make sure they comb every square inch near the teen's home southeast of San Jose.

"It's just to be as thorough as possible," Santa Clara County sheriff’s spokesman Jose Cardoza told the Times. "The investigators just want to be sure."

Her discarded cellphone was found on the side of the road almost a mile from her home. Her bag was also recovered two days after her mother learned that her daughter didn't show up for classes at Sobrato High School.

Volunteers have pitched in to strengthen the search and on Monday night a prayer vigil at a local elementary school commemorated that it has been one month since she disappeared.
