As part of its effort to depict Mitt Romney as the anti-woman candidate, the Democratic National Committee released two videos on Wednesday linking Romney to the more extreme comments and positions of GOP governors who have endorsed him so far.
In one video, the DNC ties Romney to Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett (R), who recently defended the controversial mandatory ultrasound bill in his state by saying women can just "close their eyes" if they don't want to look at the image. The video points out that Romney said he was "extraordinarily proud" to have Corbett's endorsement.
A second DNC video reminds voters that Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels (R) -- whose endorsement Romney said he was "honored" to have -- said he would sign a bill that would have defunded Planned Parenthood in his state. The video links that position to Romney's recent comment that he would like to "get rid of" Planned Parenthood and also shows footage of an Indiana woman asking the candidate where women should go for mammograms and HPV vaccines if Planned Parenthood no longer existed.
“Wherever they’d like to go," Romney responds in the clip. "This is a free society.”
DNC press secretary Melanie Roussell said in a statement that there is "no daylight" between Daniels and Romney on women's health issues. "Mitt Romney and Mitch Daniels are cut from the same extreme right-wing cloth when it comes to ensuring womens’ access to even the most basic preventive care," she said.
A spokeswoman for the Romney campaign could not be immediately reached for comment.
