Sarah Palin Sculpture: J. Taylor Wallace's Public Art Gets New Chicago Home (PHOTOS)

Posted: Updated:

Chicago recently became home to a flashy new piece of public art. And is it smokin'? You 'betcha!

Former Alaska governor and Republican vice-presidential nominee Sarah Palin was the inspiration for an ornate metal sculpture that also doubles as a barbecue smoker, created by Chicago artist J. Taylor Wallace. And it's coming to President Barack Obama's hometown.

Wallace originally created the piece for a show at the National Ornamental Metal Museum in Memphis, Tenn. But now, NBC Chicago reports that the sculpture-cooker's new home is Chicago, where it will be on display at the city's Bridgeport Art Center's Sculpture Garden through the end of the year.

In an interview last year with Memphis NBC affiliate WBIR, Wallace said that he believed if the real-life Palin met the smoking Palin, she would probably "love it."

"I mean, it's pretty fierce, she's pretty fierce, so I think they'd jive," he told the station.

On April 20, at its Bridgeport Art Center opening ceremony, a pig will be cooked inside the multi-functional Palin art piece which, incidentally, is for sale.
