Converted Bath House In Wicker Park For Sale With $2.3 Million Asking Price (PHOTOS, VIDEO)

A stunning Wicker Park home on the market has some surprising origins.

The two-story property at 1019 N. Wolcott has 9,740 square feet divided into four bedrooms, three and a half baths, but that's a recent development: until the 1980s, the home was a public bath house.

Built in 1918 as the Lincoln Bath House, the property was one of 19 in the city that accommodated 19th- and 20th-century Chicagoans living in primitive housing that may not have had running water, according to listing agent Robert Anderson.

Since its conversion 30 years ago, the Wicker Park property has been updated with decidedly modern furnishings, including commercial-grade fixtures and appliances in the kitchen, stained concrete floors and skylights in the master suite. Only the 14-foot ceilings betray the building's original purpose.

What's outside the home is as notable as what's inside it: the terrace, private garden and side yard, landscaped by Craig Bergman, won the "Best Urban Garden" award in 1985, according to the listing, which has a $2.3 million asking price.
