Matthew Giles Arrested: Australian Golfer Accused Of DUI After Crashing Into Arizona House

04/20/12 01:36 AM ET AP

GILBERT, Ariz. -- Authorities say Australian pro golfer Matthew Giles has been arrested on suspicion of drunken driving after he crashed his car into a home southeast of Phoenix.

A Gilbert police report says Giles was "travelling at a very high rate of speed and tried to make a left turn" when he lost control of his car and it crashed into a single-family home Monday night.

Police say the accident ruptured a natural gas line, but there were no reported injuries.

They say Giles was given sobriety tests at the crash scene and results are expected in about two weeks.

Giles finished 66th in the Nationwide Tour's TPC Stonebrae Championship in California the day before the crash.

The 22-year-old Giles is a native of Sydney, but the former University of Southern California star lives in the Phoenix suburb of Scottsdale.

C'mon, folks, give 'em a break. He's an Aussie. This is common behavior in the land down under. They don't consider you to be a real man unless you knock back a few pints o' brew at any given outing.

AZ police did not ask this Australian for his papers and ex-state-senator Pearce and Sherriff Arpaio averred that this is not the kind of White man they had in mind when they built those private prisons.

If they really failed to demand to see his papers verifying his "legal immigration status," then everything that we have been saying about this racist state is true.

I haven't read this one, but, if a driver refuses to do the requested breathalyzer test, a quick warrant can cause blood to be drawn and those tests at crime labs can take up to, sometimes a little longer, two weeks. It often depends on labs being backed up and understaffed, often overwhelmed by size of coverage area.
