Earth Day 2012: Events Around The World

Posted: 04/21/2012 5:17 pm Updated: 04/21/2012 7:12 pm

What are you doing for Earth Day this year? On Sunday April 22, the world will celebrate the 42nd annual Earth Day, a global event meant to celebrate the Earth and raise awareness for environmental causes.

No matter where you live, there are plenty of things to do on Earth Day. The EPA has a guide here to help you find activities for Earth Day. The EPA also encourages Americans to "own" the environment and "commit to environmental protection as one of your top priorities." If you're not heading outdoors for Earth Day, check out this list of movies to watch with children on Earth Day.

Click here to check out activities from last year's Earth Day. Read up on Earth Day activities below and tweet us what you're doing for Earth Day @HuffPostGreen.

If you decide to stay in on Earth Day, check out Whole Foods' Do Something Reel film festival.

Beginning April 22, the festival's films can be streamed online for a small fee. The "provocative" films all address food and environmental issues, according to a press release.

The last time I went to "earth day" was in Miami. There were a ton of vendors. All of the food containers were styrafoam. What a joke!

AH, the American dream is no longer. And ,by the way, it hasn't been available to the original people of this continent for a long long time.

Another perpetrated Gorist revival, enhanced by the UN and the EPA, make sure you have your umbrella with you so it will thwart the water squirting up your leg, misslabeled as Bottled Water.

Today could be the start of a few small things we all can do to keep our Earth a bit healthier.

1) Don't buy so many plastic water bottles--it's better to drink tap water, if possible instead of spending so much money on useless plastic water bottles that basically ARE filled with tap water and have a fancy name on the label.

2) Clean up after yourself in public places. Use trash containers, recycle containers, or just take your non food trash home to sort through it there. It will keep our parks and streets a bit cleaner and will make a better habitat for our wildlife.

3) Drive less! If possible, instead of driving somewhere that is less than a few blocks from where you live, try walking instead. When you get used to walking you will feel better and you may even lose a pound or two if you do it regularly. Or try taking the bus a few times per month. You WILL save money too, by not 'feeding' your car so much gasoline!

Love,
Mercedes :)

Thank you Mother Earth for your bountiful gifts. Once you have shaken us off, I hope you give rise to a species that appreciates the Eden you truly are. R.I.P. humans. It was a nice ride.

Well, it doesn't measure up to Super Bowl Sunday in hype and hoopla, but I hope you mean that you don't care about Earth Day and not that you don't care about Earth? I mean where would we have our tailgate parties when it's not around.

My parents always told me to take care of my things, clean my room, and take out the trash, and stay away from bullies--I hated it when I was a kid but now that I'm grown I worship the guidance they gave me.

Earth Day founder, Ira Einhorn, is currently serving life in a Pennsylvania for brutally murdering his girlfriend and storing her body in a trunk in a closet in his apartment. He continued to live in that apartment until, the fluids from her mumified decompositon leaked into the apartment below.

Earther's first run at compost too.

What is your point? Because some whack job was involved with it's founding, should those of us who care about the state of our planet ignore Earth Day and drop the cause.
07:38 PM on 04/22/2012
By all means, you'd cause no harm ignoring a meaningless named day that can not and will not ever result in anything but self-congratulation for caring. That's coupled with the egotistical belief that those who aren't as publicly demonstrative, aren't.

Most sane people care, but are not so inclined to follow fools who still can't justify their scientific positions with the implementation of the scientic method, by which all real science is established.

Look into Einhorn's saga. He was worshiped as a visionary by the radical left, and corporate wannabees. He was smoke and mirrors, BUT it took his brutal crime to have most look beyond his vapidity. Check and see how many helped him live on the run for years, including foreign governments, because of his politics. There is more to my post than Einhorn, the malignant person. It's the embraced bogus philosophy that can cause people to ignore basic humanity for the sake of junk science backed by a failing political ideology. Have a nice Earth Day.

When the Earth is psychotic I worry. By polluting it we are making it so.

And  I would stop drilling on Federal Land, stop pipelines, build garage burning battery's on wheels and make the taxpayer spend a couple of trillion for no return.   Mothball all plans for spaceships and become flexible to Russia.  Nasa is now speaking Russian because they have to.

We all need clean air, clean water and safe food to eat.

There once was a time when rivers caught fire in the US.

Being Green and protecting the environment protects your health and saves money in the long run.

Free Market America? That's a joke, right? You can fool some of the people all of the time.

Psst, You forgot to add Free Market America is a project of Americans for Limited Government and Citizens for Lower Taxes and a Stronger Economy.
