Time and again last year, House Republican leaders faced a nearly intractable opponent: the very freshman class that propelled them into the majority with the historic 2010 midterm elections.

The tea party is nuts. What a shock! (rolling eyes)

The problem is that red and moderate districts sent a bunch of cranks to Washington. If you ever attend a local public function, you see them. I attended a share and gather opinion type thing about a local option sales tax our country wanted to extend rather than raising property taxes. Good solid proposals to improve traffic intersections, built  Read More...

"...the speaker’s best friends demanded an emergency meeting to discuss their fear that the freshmen would rebel over possible tax hikes and that his internal rival, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.), would benefit from Boehner’s demise."
--------------------------------------------------->

No surprise here. Cantor never seems to be an overt TP supporter, but he would be happy to benefit from their support in a Boehner collapse. Even in light of Cantor's own current problems it appears that a takeover is still his ultimate goal.

Evil begets evil.

The Repubs appealed to the darkest parts of human nature- just to win more votes. Because of that the Repub leadership and everyone else in our nation have to face the consequences and deal with the damage that those fanatics are bringing to our country.

Good!!
They deserve to suffer. When they had the chance to nip the tea party in the bud, they decided to just pander for votes.
This is karmic payback for not standing up to the birthers.

A monster? Try a stooge. That's actually too kind, but I'd get flagged if I said what I really thought about him.

I am getting so sick of the tea party idiots thinking it's their way or the highway. Government is supposed to represent everyone and because of that comprimises have to be made by the people we elect so the country can work. And believe me if your in the minority on an issue it tough luck becaue the majority wants this to happen. We are all in this together, when are these people going to figure that out.

The Older GOP Republicans like Boehnor, and the Tea Party reminds me of Aesop's Fable the Farmer and the snake.

"One winter a Farmer found a Snake stiff and frozen with cold. He had compassion on it, and taking it up, placed it in his bosom. The Snake was quickly revived by the warmth, and resuming its natural instincts, bit its benefactor, inflicting on him a mortal wound. "Oh," cried the Farmer with his last breath, "I am rightly served for pitying a scoundrel.""

This should prove that drinking and excessive crying are not good leadership qualities.

That is how the system wants them. Romney will be exactly the same, except with less genuine empathy toward students and anyone who isn't a millionaire.

The only act of leadership Boehner has displayed was when he 'secured' better offices for himself and entourage when he first became speaker. Since then he has displayed no leadership at all. But I bet the view is spectacular.

Everybody knows that John Boehner is "Speaker of the House" in name only. He has never had any control over his caucus. Those Tea Party freshmen are just plain nuts and will do anything to bring the government to it's knees.
