WATCH: $70,000 Of Caviar Consumed In Seconds

Competitive eating has been oft-criticized for its gluttonous premise -- people that stuff themselves with a lot of food in a short amount of time aren't doing much to save the world. But most of the time, these contests consist of volumes of fairly cheap foods, such as hot dogs or pancakes.

But when one hears of an eating contest involving $70,000 of black caviar, one can't help but be a little shocked. Let's just hope that the 12 contestants selected for this stunt, sponsored by Moscow caviar producers, really enjoyed themselves.

The winner finished his 500 grams (roughly one pound) of caviar in one minutes and eight seconds. The prize for his feat? Another 500 grams of caviar.
