Cat vs. Bear: Fearless Feline Fends Off Black Bear

The Huffington Post  |  By Posted: 04/23/2012 6:45 pm Updated: 05/ 2/2012 3:23 pm

Cat Fights Bear

This fierce feline is protecting her turf -- even in the face of the ferocious black bear.

That's right, this tiny kitty took on a bear and won.

It may not be the first time a cat and bear have faced off, but this is one killer kitty!

Granted, it seems like the bear is more interested in being buds than causing any harm, but we're betting on this terrifying cat in any match now.

There are many well documented cases of people who watch and study bears, being accepted it seems into them for yrs, then suddenly attacked for no apparent reason. I know it seems cool to have bears under the bird feeder, I have had some too. However, they are wild animals at heart and can and will suddenly change thier minds and attack you. There is a national geographic special of a bear man who returned to the same bear clan for 25 yrs, seemed totally accepted by them, even nuzzled by them. One day his favorite male bear attacked him for no reason and killed him with one powerful swat. Just remember, they are very tempermental and have emotions, unpredictable and wild at heart. Promoting bears to be in your yard and feeding them seems wonderful, awe inspiring people, giving a false sence of safety and cam and will eventually kill you, your animals etc. I finally discouraged ours to go away with loud air horn blasts and stoped feeding the birds and them. As cool and spiritual as it seemed, they belong in the wild.

That was a cub being curious about a adult cat, so yeah the cat was able to run it off with one swipe. The Momma bear would've been a totally different story.

I've been reading a lot of the posts criticising you for not grabbing your cat - what the citiots don't realize is that by interfering and spooking the bear you could have gotten your cat hurt. I have several cats - a few live outdoors - we have raccoons, possums, deer, fox and the occasional bear - we have never felt that our cats were in danger. Anyone who knows cats knows they are pretty good at defending themselves. Thank you for sharing that video with those of us who can appreciate it. Your Taz looks a lot like our Reba.

We took in a stray cat several years ago. He would go across the street to the neighbor's back yard, sit on top of the block wall and tease the heck out of their dogs. We didn't even know about it until the neighbors told us. They thought it was pretty funny.

What are people thinking? Hey , lets tape our cat with a bear and see if it gets killed or lives, then post the video. If it survives the video may go viral and I have my 2 minutes of fame. Allowing your cat to be in danger, you dont deserve to have the responsibility of owning a pet.

Obviously you have never been around bears, especially around mine. They have the aggression that of a labrador puppy.

Hey, why don't you put the camera down and get your cat in the house when there are bears in the back yard? Just a thought.

I was more scared for my bears than our cat. Don't post comments until you know the facts.

Whether the bear was in more danger from the cat (seriously?) or whether the cat was in more danger from the bear, it does not matter. Please put down the camera and remove the animal that you can pick-up with one hand. It is common sense. Be a responsible animal owner.

The kitty was lucky that the bear was more curious than aggressive. It's odds of still being around had it been a grizzly or any number of other hungry critters may not have been as good. Cats live longer, healthier lives when kept indoors.
