Spring game weekend is always an important part of the year on the recruiting trail, and Notre Dame used its showcase event to add a big piece to the Class of 2013 puzzle as Rivals.com four-star offensive lineman John Montelus has made an oral commitment to play in South Bend.
The 6-5, 295-pound Montelus confirmed on his Twitter account that he will play for head coach Brian Kelly. He had been weighing offers from Florida, Michigan, Nebraska and Ohio State, among many others. The trip to South Bend this weekend was his first-ever visit to Notre Dame, so Kelly and his staff made quite the impression.
The lineman will likely play guard at the next level, but he is currently a tackle at Everett High School (Everett, Massachusetts). He was the anchor to one of the best offensive lines in the state of Massachusetts.
The Fighting Irish now have 11 commitments in the Class of 2013 cycle.
