Michelle Feliciano, Chicago Mom, Accused Of Puncturing Infant With Toothpicks

A Chicago mother is facing serious child abuse charges after her infant son was hospitalized with severe and disturbing injuries.

The 11-month-old son of Michelle Feliciano, 23, was hospitalized by her relatives on April 15 after a caretaker noticed the infant appeared lethargic and had difficulty holding his head upright, the Chicago Tribune reports. Hospital staff found multiple skull fractures, bleeding on the brain, a broken clavicle, a burn on his hand, marks on his neck, a liver injury and several puncture wounds on his foot caused by toothpicks, and notified authorities.

Feliciano told police the infant had burned his hand on a portable heater, and confessed that she had fractured the boy's clavicle while pulling him forcefully out of his crib, and had poked his foot with toothpicks, causing severe wounds, during "another bout of frustration," NBC Chicago reports.

According to police, Feliciano has been charged with two counts of aggravated battery to a child causing permanent disability, one count of aggravated battery to a child causing great bodily harm and misdemeanor endangering the life and health of a child, the Chicago Sun-Times reports. The child remains hospitalized in stable condition.

Feliciano ordered held on $900,000 bond in court Thursday. Her other child, a daughter between the ages of 3 and 4, is in the care of an aunt, according to police.
