Native Americans Walk From Reid Gardner Station Coal Plant To Las Vegas To Highlight Air Pollution Concerns

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Native Americans, Sierra Club activists and others have completed a three-day, 50-mile walk from the Reid Gardner Station coal plant in Moapa to the Las Vegas federal courthouse.

Moapa Band of Paiutes Chairman William Anderson says in a statement Sunday that the march was held to highlight air pollution, a major concern for tribal members on the reservation.

Reid Gardner borders the reservation and is Southern Nevada's last coal-burning power plant. Tribal members say its pollutants worsen asthma, sinus problems, ear infections and heart disease. The Sierra Club says it also robs tribal members of their traditional lifestyle by forcing them indoors.

A rally at the courthouse on Earth Day on Sunday included a traditional tribal victory dance and song.

Maybe Native Americans, Sierra Club activists and others should plan their next trip to China?

http://discovermagazine.com/2011/apr/18-made-in-china-our-toxic-imported-air-pollution

2/3's of the mercury pollution in Nevada now comes in the air from China!

Last year they burnt over 49% of all the coal consumed on the planet!

China more than doubled its use of coal in less than 10 years!

Click on the start button and watch the growth!

They could do a lot more good reducing pollution in Nevada buy not buying stuff made in China!

It's time for an Environmental Tariff but the Sierra Club won't touch that!

Might it not be better to burn our coal here in technologically advanced plants rather than exporting it to China to be burned in unregulated plants?

Where have you been? Hasn't your local NIMBY Environmentalist explain to you that Asian pollution is not bad for the planet because of the protective powers of per capita and historic usage.

This was the first lesson I learned while posting on HP!

Wow. These are the same people who introduced the world to smoking tobacco and as a result millions upon millions upon millions are no longer with us. The irony is so thick.

It was Americans who vastly strengthened the nicotine ratio, and then added all the rest of the toxins.

Uhm we didn't introduce tobacco, we used it in ceremonies and tobacco was smoked before America was discovered and i happen to be a part of the tribe that is going through this, this is not payback for "introducing tobacco", besides, if this WAS payback for Indians smoking tobacco, I'd like to see the payback for white people enslaving black people, stealing land from us and pretty much bringing devastation to every continent they've been on..
