'Revenge' Ending: Creator Says He Has A Plan For The Series

When And How Will 'Revenge' End?

How much more revenging can Emily Thorne do on "Revenge"? A lot more, according to series creator Mike Kelley. In an interview with the New York Post, Kelley said he has mapped out the future of the ABC series and knows exactly how many seasons he wants. However, he won't reveal how long "Revenge" (Wednesdays at 10 p.m. ET) will last for out of fear of it not matching up with ABC's interest.

“Before I embarked on this journey, I wanted to know that I could extend the life of 'Revenge' to be a satisfying series and if I didn’t think I could do that, I wouldn’t have taken on the series," he said.

"Revenge" tells the story of Emily Thorne, a woman whose family was scorned by the community they once belonged to early on in her life. The formula of the show had Emily (Emily VanCamp) seeking revenge on someone responsible for her father's downfall each episode, but recent installments have moved away from the procedural formula. Kelley said the key to keeping "Revenge" from being a one-season series was making sure to develop the side players and their agendas.

In an earlier interview with HuffPost TV's Maureen Ryan, Kelley said our heroine -- or anti-hero -- Emily sees herself going down with her enemies.

"I started the show with a quote from Confucius: 'Before you embark on a journey of revenge, dig two graves.' In Emily's mind, success equals burying her enemies and most likely, burying herself alongside them. She says in her voiceover, 'This is not a story of forgiveness.' [But] she protests a little too much," Kelley said. "If we do our jobs right as the writers of the show, this story ultimately ends, however many seasons down the road, with Victoria and Emily standing across from each other, and all the bodies between them, and they forgive each other. So that's sort of where we're headed, eventually, but it's going to take a long time to learn that lesson, if indeed she does learn."

What do you think of that ending? Let us know in the comments!
Tune into "Revenge" on Wednesdays at 10 p.m. ET on ABC.
