Apple Stock

Apple is still red hot.

The company has announced its earnings for the fiscal quarter ending on March 31. (Apple records this as its second quarter of the year, while many companies refer to it as the first.)

According to a press release, Apple saw $39.2 billion in revenue and a net profit of $11.6 billion, or $12.30 per diluted share. One year ago, the company posted $24.7 billion in revenue and a net profit of $6.0 billion.

Customers bought 35.1 million iPhones this quarter (an 88 percent increase from the same quarter last year) and 11.8 million iPads (a 151 percent increase). Four million Mac units were sold and 7.7 million iPods.

The company now has over $110 billion in cash and reserves, reports TechCrunch.

“Our record March quarter results drove $14 billion in cash flow from operations,” said Peter Oppenheimer, Apple’s CFO, per the release. “Looking ahead to the third fiscal quarter, we expect revenue of about $34 billion and diluted earnings per share of about $8.68.”

Analysts had predicted that Apple would sell 30 million iPhones, 12 million iPads and between 4.1 million and 4.4 million Macs during the quarter.

Last quarter's results, which included earnings and sales from the holiday shopping season, were slightly stronger, with Apple reporting $46.33 billion in revenue and a net profit of $13.06 billion ($13.87 per diluted share). Customers snapped up a total of 37.04 million iPhones, 15.43 million iPads, 5.2 million Macs and 15.4 million iPods in the previous quarter.

Although ‘Team Apple’ has had some quality opinions, none were convincing enough to sway me of my initial views. I don’t hate Apple products, by any means, in fact I use my iPod daily. However, doesn’t mean I approve of the way they run their company. I do not approve of the way they treat their workers in China or how they continue to increase the salary of already rich employees but won’t use that money to improve the environment for the factory workers. That being said, they still create great products that outshine the competition, this being the reason my iPod gets continuous use. Apple is incredibly successful in every move they make but I too have to wonder when their plummet is going to occur? People, eventually, will stop buying Apple products due the expense factor, unimpressive upgrades, or maybe another company will invent products that will blow Apple out of the water. Any way it happens, the company needs to watch its sales and stop over predicting the outcome. As a previous comment said: “Apple keeps manufacturing their products in Asia and we keep buying them with our unemployment checks, who’s the real dummy?”

I really have nothing against Apple. But it was funny to watch our CEO, who had switched from BB to iPhone last week, try to send a quick email. I've never heard the man swear so much! As someone who uses his phone for email and business A LOT, he didn't last more than a few days with the iPhone. I personally think that BB is still best for business use.

APPLE may be on Fire,
but still somewhat dim lite for me ...............
In my opinion, just means their products are overpriced .........
Most, if not all, are manufactured overseas at cut-rate labor costs,
The high demand for products is volatile,
Case in point, Walmart growth in Mexico.
What is the "core" of Apple's achillies heel ................
They most certainly have one if not more,
no matter how you peel the skin,
savor the flavor,
Apples can be broken down into
applesauce, apple cider and other related ...........
Apples are not always "in season" ............ IMO

Did that mean something?
03:47 PM on 04/25/2012
Are you awake ???
Do we need to check for a pulse ????
Apple may be on fire,
was in reference to a tweet by some twit ......... joking .......... ; )
Rest of my rant my attempt at some humor,
or lack there of ............
No more, no less ............ ; )

Just another fine example of the hypocrisy in our Whitehouse.

No one has to buy an iPad every day to drive to work. Apple isn't getting government aid on top of its profits.
01:03 PM on 04/25/2012
No ... no Ipad to work however they get many of the same deductions that the oil companies get (R&D, real estate write offs, cost of goods sold). Your title explains much so tell me this mr liberal progressive, if you remove the oil company support from the government you increase the cost of goods sold. If you increase the cost of goods sold then what happens to the price???? I know that this is a difficult thing for liberals to handle but if the cost of goods sold increases then the price goes up by at least an equivalent amount. So the price at the pump goes through the roof. (PS don't forget the $0.60 tax on every gallon of gas)

Apple is great but I worry about the average persons reliability on electronics and software. There's nothing wrong with having gadgets, but too many other skills that took thousands of years to develop have been lost in a few short decades. There are people out there who can turn their lights on at home from their cell phone on the train, but can't put a proper knot in their shoes. There are too many who would be helpless without their devices.

apple has creates amazing technology. I will never switch from an iphone and am looking to purchase a mac soon. there will always be people in the world that bash apple and there will always be people that praise apple. But the fact is the technology is wonderful..Its called progressive evolution people and apple has crushed the market. Get with it or get left behind!
10:03 AM on 04/25/2012
I have used apple products for 3 years and will never switch from the iphone. Apple has amazing technology. There will always be people that complain and people that give apple kudos. No one can deny the technolgy they brought to the US and well apple products work.
10:02 AM on 04/25/2012
Reading some of these posts you would think only conservative's buy Apple products! The left just loves to demonize large successful corporations. Capitalism makes the world go around whether you like it or not!

So much hate. Get over it! Apple is awesome. What are you, a bunch of socialists? Many companies outsource something. Yes, Apple is more expensive. But, it will last longer than a silly PC.

Sounds like you're not a shareholder who's bitter about missing the gains people saw yesterday.

Another socialist who thinks successful people and companies owe them something. Go out and start your own business and build it to a Billion dollar company. Oh, that's right, you would prefer someone else do it and then give the money to the other 99% that do little or nothing to earn it.

And still they hide their money offshore complaining that they must have more. And still they fire american engineers to hire cheaper foreign ones. And still they tell the United States Treasury to FO. And still they ask for the US government to protect their patents. Model corporation. Modern bully. Traditional BS.

let me guess...you don't shop at Wal-Mart either?
10:58 AM on 04/25/2012
mostly I don't like the way they smell, Something about Subway's "fresh" bread ain't right. Actually, I always loved Apples products. I've only recently found out about their corporate crap. There are few "American" companies. All those tax dodgers ... they really helped the Irish people (footing a massive bill) didn't they? and on and on it goes.
11:34 AM on 04/25/2012
No...I don't and for the same reason! Try and build some character and sense of what is right and wrong. Our gov't supports WalMart's Health Care. People at Walmart qualify for food stamps. What's wrong with that picture. As long as it's cheap, huh? Corps should use profits to pay decent wages and health care. End of Story. It's only fair when looking at success.
03:03 PM on 04/25/2012
They did none of those things.

All they did was sell a metric crapload of iPhones.
05:04 PM on 04/25/2012
yeah, they did all of those things. Its OK, I own their products too, but it stinks how these companies screw americans with one hand and sell to them with other.

The marketing gimmick that tricked people into thinking it was a superior product marches on. That "Buddhist" Jobs did a great job of finding slave labor to keep costs down didn't he?

Of course Apple posts profits. They pay those people next to nothing and charge a fortune over here. More like Rotten Apple!
10:04 AM on 04/25/2012
Doesn't it make you wonder how much those people would be making if there was no Apple to pay them?
10:23 AM on 04/25/2012
not really some other american company would be paying them
