Pakistan Missile Test: Nuclear-Capable Ballistic Missile Successfully Test-Fired

Reuters  |  Posted: 04/25/2012 1:07 am Updated: 04/25/2012 2:36 am

ISLAMABAD, April 25 (Reuters) - Pakistan successfully test-fired a nuclear-capable ballistic missile on Wednesday, the military said, less than a week after rival India tested a missile capable of delivering nuclear warheads as far as Beijing and Eastern Europe.

Pakistan's Shaheen-1A is an intermediate range ballistic missile, capable of reaching targets in India. Military officials declined to specify the range of the missile.

The missile's impact point was in the Indian Ocean.

India and Pakistan have fought three full-scale wars since they were carved out of British India in 1947. They conduct missile tests regularly and inform each other in advance. (Reporting by Sheree Sardar and Qasim Nauman; Editing by Rebecca Conway and Robert Birsel)

Despite the fact that both Pakistan and India inform each other ahead of time about their missile testing....the prevailing concern should be focused on Pakistan. It is on the verge of becoming a failed state, and if it does, the Taliban or Al-Qaeda will do what they can to get their hands on the country's nuclear weaponry. Iran and North Korea would be the least of our worries if that happens.

"China's military is drastically superior to India's. Just in the 2002 standoff with Pakistan India lost over 1000 soldiers in mobilizing its army due to road accidents and getting blown up by their own mines (without ever actually fighting with anyone). What a joke.

China doesn't need Pakistan's missiles. It can take care of India completely on it's own. Both it's economy and military far out-match India in every aspect.

As far as relations with neighbours goes, India doesn't have a single neighbour with whom it doesn't have problems. That includes Nepal, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. You have a problem with China occupying parts of India but you forget to mention India occupying Pakistan's Kashmir. People there hate Indian rule (as witnessed by the mass protests against India a few months ago), yet India insists on illegally keeping hold of a muslim-majority state despite the fact that Pakistan was made for the muslim majority areas of British India.

India needs to stop feeling constantly threatened by good relations between Pakistan and China and instead, learn something about how good neighbourly relations actually help everyone in the region."

Nice try CCP bot, but aside from Pakistan, India has quite good relations with all of it's South Asian neighbors.

They are just fishing in troubled waters. They conveniently talk about mass protests in Jammu and Kashmir, but ignore the mass protests in China and how brutally China puts them down.

LoL, a lecture to India about friendly relations from China? No thanks. China is the last country that should talk about peace as it is harrasing the Indo-Chinese regions, and continues to occupy Tibet and parts of India. At the same time arming and aiding Pakistan and keeping North Korea imporverished.

Sure China's economy and military out-matches that of India. India has democracy and provides freedom to its people. Is it flawless? No. But atleast it has the right intentions and moving towards the right direction.

China continues to help the Maoists in Nepal and in India.

After North Korea's missile failed, Pakistan became worried if the Chinese were selling lemons to everyone :-)

It is felt that Pakistan's next target would be to exceed the 5000 km range. What is the use?

N.Korea fired one...to miserable end. India fired one offcourse Pakistan has to fire one too...We humans talk about statemanship, democracy, human-rights, green world...and more ...but when it comes to arms we have to feel that "If you have it, I also have it" its like 3year olds saying na na na my father can beat your father or see we have it too....I wonder when human race is going to grow-up?

Agreed. It always hurts to see my country (Pakistan) behaving like this. Especially when they could be spending this money on infrastructure, healthcare, education, etc. Its pathetic.

Non Proliferation is a joke. The permanent members of the security council should decide who is entitled to be in club nuke and who is not entitled by unanimous vote. The permanent member states of the security council should then bind themselves by treaty to nuke anyone who has nukes who is not entitled to them to the stone age.

At the first session of the U.N. general assembly in 1946, an atomic energy commission with representitives of 12 countries was created for the purpose of controlling the development of atomic energy. The U.S., represented by Bernard Barush, proposed the creation of an international authority to control every phase of atomic energy development for only peaceful purposes and forbidding the manufacture of any nuclear weapons For its part, the U.S. would destroy its entire stock of A-bombs and agree to build no more provided all countries would accept rigorous and open inspection to assure compliance. The USSR and Poland refused to accept this provision, claiming it was nothing but a license for espionage. They did, however, endorse the idea that the U.S. should destroy its arsenal. Thus began the nuclear arms race continuing to this day.

None of this matters as far as who has what! Economically the world is already destroyed! The trigger will be who controls the few natural resources that are left! We will be attacked for our fresh water alone and if it takes nuclear weapons, so be it!

no point setting off a nuke over water if that is the resource you want because the water becomes contaminated.

India tested one last week, so Pakistan, not to be upstaged, tests one this week. Those two neighbors have a history of disagreements and a nucelar arsenal. Throw the border countries in the mix and it beomes a huge concern. One nuke and retaliation with multiple nukes creating hell on earth. Probability zero, possiblity ?.

it is no different to the usa and ussr
how long did the cold war go on? until the soviets were broken by a conventional war in afghanistan.
If either India or Pakistan blink it will be because of some other issue.

A very bad omen. These missels can have only one target intented for. We'll leave out the name, but it not Afganistan. Why do they provoke the region? These people are our allies, I'ld say across the board we should look at who we call allies and what their own intention are!
