'Fringe' Renewed For 13-Episode Fifth And Final Season On Fox

'Fringe' Renewed For Fifth And Final Season

"Fringe" fans, consider yourselves lucky: Fox's trippy sci-fi drama has been renewed for a 13-episode fifth and final season.

The show, which has been plagued with middling ratings from the start, has seen an uptick in DVR numbers since its move to Friday nights, but the renewal can largely be attributed to massive support, from fans, critics and the bosses at Fox.

“'Fringe' has been a point of pride for me," said Fox president of entertainment Kevin Reilly at the Television Critics Association press tour in January. "I share the fans’ passion for the show.”

And passionate fans will have to agree that 13 more episodes will definitely help wrap things up -- although with multiple universes, a few different timelines and a couple of versions of each main character, it's anybody's guess how things will end for the Fringe Division we know and love.

“We are thrilled and beyond grateful that Fox -- and our fans -- have made the impossible possible: 'Fringe' will continue into a fifth season that will allow the series to conclude in a wild and thrilling way,” series co-creator/executive producer J.J. Abrams said in the press release announcement.

Producers Joel Wyman and Jeff Pinkner tweeted out their excitement and thanks when the news broke:
