Don Knotts
Don Knotts played wimpy guys in TV and movies and a new study suggests that in times of economic turmoil, women prefer gentle, sensitive men like his Barney Fife character.

Your Tango:

Researchers from Southampton Solent University in the U.K have found that in times of economic turmoil, women prefer gentle, sensitive men.

The long-form explanation of their research findings makes sense. Overall, when financial times are tough, as they are right now, ladies are more attracted to loving and sensitive men.

To put one of my favorite actors up with this headline is disgraceful, HP. Since when do all men have to be brutes, mean, ugly and hateful to be a man............your disgusting HP.

I am a woman and am offended by the title of this article. Since when does being gentle and sensitive make a man wimpy? Seriously......what a way to emasculate men and send mixed signals, all the while we tell them we want them to be sensitive! What man in his right mind would want to be called wimpy, even as it's labeled here as something positive! Ugh!

Just because being treated as a second class citizen who is only good for getting knocked up and cooking does not float a liberal woman's boat does not make her manly. It makes her someone who has a brain and some self respect.

Does being sensitive to ones spouse or gentle, or caring, or compassionate make a man wimpy?...Is this why Nice Men finish last?...is this why Nice Guys appear Weak?...

Man I need to work harder at being an insensitive Narcissist then.

Since when is "gentle and sensitive" whimpy? Is the writer of this four?

The article made no sense at all.

Now what?
12:46 AM on 04/28/2012
The author of this article is 23 years old. She doesn't know anything yet about men or relationships. At 23 nothing has happened to her yet. People who are 23 don't know much yet about life. As Mark Twain once remarked..."When I was 18 I thought my father was the dumbest man in the world. When I turned 25, I was amazed at how much my father had learned."

Age does not have anything to do with knowing about life, there are people my age who are very knowledgeable about life and some old people who are not.

He is not talking about intelligence or how smart someone is at a young age. There are some things that you can only gain knowledge from through personal life experience. Nobody is discounting your intelligence at 24....already smarter than the average bear by choosing to wait to have children. When you are 50 and look back at your 20-something years you will relate more to Twain's quote. We all experience this as we get older and hopefully, a little smarter along the way :)

Of course it does. You're 24. You'll see.

My guy is gentle and sensitive and he is most definitely NOT wimpy! He's aggressive when he needs to be.

Gentle and sensitive is wimpy? Then I am certainly a fan of wimpy men.

Would you dare turn the title around and say "Why 'Wimpy' Women Make The Best Wives"? Would that be too sexist? I am completely offended.

To call a loving and sensitive man (or woman) "wimpy" indicates the preternaturally high esteem we place on being or obtaining "number 1" in pretty much all we do. The win at all cost mentality may puff up our egos among peers but it does little to improve the overall quality of our lives and the world we live in.

Give me a kind, sensitive, caring, loving soul over some "winner take all" obsessed person any day.
