Sandra Fluke Says Monica Crowley Insult Was 'Blatant Homophobia'

Sandra Fluke Monica Crowley

Georgetown University law student Sandra Fluke responded to Fox News pundit Monica Crowley's tweet on Thursday, saying she was disturbed by the conservative commentator's "blatant homophobia."

“I’m not going to let this kind of thing get to me personally,” Fluke said during an appearance on MSNBC's "The Ed Show." “What really bothers me about it [is] the blatant homophobia in the comment, and the idea that that is an acceptable thing to say publicly.”

Crowley caused a stir on Thursday when she responded to the news of Fluke getting engaged to her longtime boyfriend by tweeting, "To a man?"

During the MSNBC interview, Fluke said she was most disturbed that Crowley intended the tweet as an insulting joke.

“I don’t want an apology from anyone personally,” Fluke said. “I think it is possible she owes an apology to the LGBTQ community, because I am not offended to be asked whether or not I’m with a woman. It’s not offensive to me to be gay, but it was clearly meant as an insult.”

Fluke came into the national spotlight in February after conservative radio personality Rush Limbaugh called her a "slut" after she publicly advocated for birth control coverage. While Limbaugh apologized for his initial comments following massive backlash, this week he again attacked Fluke for "coordinating" with Obama to "scare students about the interest rates on their loans."

Fluke dismissed Limbaugh's latest insult, telling Lawrence O'Donnell that Limbaugh has become "confused by his own propaganda."

The king and queen makers of the Democratic Party should pay close attention to those being targeted by the conservative pundits and newscasters.  Sandra Fluke, Debby Wasserman Schultz, Hillary Clinton, Elizabeth Warren, Michael Grayson, George Clooney, Jon Stewart, Steven Colbert, and others routinely find themselves in the "cross-hairs" of critics such as Limbaugh, Hannity, Palin, Malkin, and the Ken  Read More...

Sandra Fluke has a lot of nerve feigning offense over a tweet when she's just a jerk who believes others should pay for her promiscuity.
I find HER offensive. I'm sick of people who believe they're entitled to to get everything for free.

No, It wasn't an insult, she was clearly asking a question ms. Puke, I guess you didnt give the answer!!!!

Greek- Phobia =Fear. Homo=Man (Kind)
Therefore Homophobia is fear of man or woman.
This incident was not blatant homophobia it was the opposite.
Had it been decribed as a homophobic attack I would have understood the problem!
And yet the result is persoanl attacks on all sides- a few defenders and many detractors.

Apologies- The Homo bit is Latin.
As such the word is a bit androgenous- or even a bastardisation.
The true meaning however remains as stated. Homophobic behaviour is a reaction of homophobia.

Liberals don't even realize how they are such hypocrites. If they are so excepting of homosexuality, how is implying someone is homosexual "homophobic"? I bet Fluke is heterosexual... gee, does that mean I'm heterophobic?

If you make a statement based on facts there no problem with credibility. But when you are a person who is in the media and by extension, news that has NO basis at all in fact them the problem is squarely yours. There are no facts being presented that Ms. Fluk has ever been involved in a homosexual relationship.

There are also not no news people on the left calling Mr. Bachmann a homosexual as a part of any news story. Now comedians, they get a pass on that one. Even so Mr. Bachmann undeniably has tendencies.

First, it's ACCepting, not EXcepting....

Second, WE are quite accepting of homosexuality, but also recognize when others attempt to use it as an insult, and thus we take offense to the implied insult.

Jennifer Fulwiler has penned a thought provoking piece on the subject of women, sexuality, contraception, and abortion:

http://www.ncregister.com/blog/jennifer-fulwiler/the-contraception-trap/#ixzz1sixRqAcS

Here is an excerpt:

"...it is only the Catholic Church that is willing to tell women unpopular truths about human sexuality. Only the Catholic Church dares to remind us that the human sexual act always carries the potential to create new human beings, and that we're setting ourselves and our future children up for disaster when we disregard this most fundamental of truths. It may not be convenient. It may not be what people want to be true. But it is true. And knowing the truth is always a prerequisite for freedom.

And so I find it ironic when contraception is said to allow anyone to live "freely." Secular culture assures women that they can go ahead and engage in the act that creates babies, even if they are not ready to be mothers. They are handed contraception, and told to forget all about the possibility of parenthood. Then, when the contraception fails, as it so often does, they find themselves feeling trapped, perceiving that their only escape is through the doors of an abortion facility. This, to me, does not look like freedom..."

Fulwiler's insights are particularly relevant given today's news story from Reuters: "Women overestimate effectiveness of Pill, condoms."

Yes, well done the Catholic church. I doubt anyone would realize they might have a baby after having sex without their magnificent education campaign. Pity they aren't so keen to help Africa, for example, by publicising the fact that not using condoms means you will likely get HIV.
02:34 PM on 04/29/2012
You are wrong, Edward Green, a Harvard researcher on AIDs prevention, notes that condoms have made the AIDs epidemic in Africa worse:

" Pity they aren't so keen to help Africa, for example, by publicising the fact that not using condoms means you will likely get HIV."

-Condoms haven't really helped Africa that much....
-Why should every aid organization or charity have to say the same thing? Their intent is to help build a vibrant, less-violent society that can take care of itself. Isn't that enough for you?

I can't believe in the 21st century we are actually having this debate. I don't think it's birth control perpertrating this "truth". Watch any tv show or movie, everyone is having s*x but no one ever gets pregnant. S*x sells. When the Catholic Church starts lecturing men on their responsibility is when I will take them seriously on this issue. I am sick of the paradigmn of expecting women to be the "gatekeepers" - it takes two to make a baby. Also, I go to Mass every week and see most couples have only two children, so I don't know who they are trying to convince.
09:04 PM on 04/30/2012
Yes. many Catholics do not follow Church teaching on life issues and that is a shame.

That so many couples choose to limit their families to two children makes me sad. Children are such a joy and a blessing, I can not understand why anyone would want to artificially limit the amount of joy they have in their lfe.

I always cringe when someone tells me that they have two children and now "they are done." "Done?" That is a word to be used when chores are finished. What a sad and distorted view of life.

As Catholics we are called by God to be open to life, to have a "spirit of generosity" when it comes to procreation.

An interesting on the subject can be found at this link:

She's like some sort of mirror that reflects their attacks right back at them, but with more power. Though it does make you wonder how they think they can deny the reality of the War On Women by constantly attacking dignified and articulate women like Sandra Fluke.
06:30 PM on 04/29/2012
That's what you think. Having someone participate in an UNOFFICIAL hearing - arranged by democrats w nancy pelosi as minority leader, solely attended by democrats,
and then taking advantage of the General Public - not aware of the constant Political Theatre of the Democratic party - or the corrupt machinations of the democratic party to give the false impression it was an "official" hearing in which The Fluke gave her testimony -
is not only UNdignified - but fraudulent - to deceive the American people.

The Democratic party lost the discussion on Abortion, and tried to regurgitate it through fluke's political threatre - under the guise of US taxpayers paying for the costs of everybody else's contraception tools - as if access to Free Condoms - and everyone's personal responsibility to prevent pregnancies and SEXUAL-Transmitted diseases - should be someone else's problems = US taxpayers as a whole.

(cont'd):
06:31 PM on 04/29/2012
(cont'd):

For someone who attended a Catholic University - and chose Georgetown - run by Jesuit priests - to attack their healthcare plan - on abortion, is a hard-core women's rights activist - who was willing to pass herself off as an "innocent" 23-year-old co-ed - until her own personal profile exposed something entirely different - and was eventually revealed to be part of Obama's re-election campaign - a willing participant in another one of his False Narratives - using Congress as a PROP - again - for his Political Theatre - and being represented by Anita Dunn's PR firm - as Obama's Communications Director.

The Fluke decided to speak for ALL women - and not All women believe her ideology - nor do some of us think = a university or employers' healthcare plans - or US taxpayers through Obamacare - should be saddled with paying for abortions or gender re-assignments - or the costs of having abortion clincs on campuses.
