Texting and Driving? PSA Shows Busy Dentist, Highlighting Distracted Driving Dangers (VIDEO)

Posted: 04/27/2012 3:50 pm Updated: 04/27/2012 3:59 pm

Think a trip to the dentist is scary in itself? Imagine if the dentist were distracted from his job by texts, photos or a favorite tune. (Oh, sorry, is that blood?)

One PSA has managed to highlight everyone's worst fear by comparing distracted office staff to texting and driving in an effort to reach out to teens that are hitting the road with their cell phones in hand.

The video's somewhat disturbing office scene fades out to the text "Dentistry takes focus." The ad then briefly shows a teen preoccupied with his phone, followed by the words, "Driving takes focus."

Director Olivier Agostini said he hoped the spot for Impact Teen Drivers would capture teens' attention with a bit of humor.

"The backbone of the spot was to create awareness on the dangers of distracted driving without relying on the use of ubiquitous scare imagery or graphic car-crash footage," Agostini was quoted as saying in Adland.

According to a report commissioned by State Farm Insurance, 57 percent of teen drivers text while driving. And perhaps surprisingly, only 22 percent of parents talk to licensed teens about safe driving habits, the Christian Science Monitor reports.

The survey also revealed that drivers under age 20 have the greatest proportion of distracted drivers. Similarly, young passengers were the least likely to speak up if drivers were texting or talking on their phones, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports.

Ok. Moms & Dads worried that your kiddps are driving and texting or making calls while driving this is the surefire way of stopping it forever. You need a cellphone jammer. I know i said use a web cam and that will work in curtailing the behavior to a point, but kiddos are your offspring and they are smarter than you are thats the way evolution works. 2 parents = a smarter and better copy of the origional parents) sorry thats the way it goes. The best way to stop texting or making calls while driving is a phone jammer. It can be found at this website.....

Lol. Just go to google and type in Cell Phone Jammer and look for the best one that oa priced for you. Remember some jammers are very powerful and can jam a cell phone for many feet or blocks depending on the model. We used them in Iraq to stop the insurgency from setting off IED's that wher set off by cell phones. Good luck.... D.W.

Oh by the way. Anyone on the road in range of the jammer will be affected. You might have a problem with other drivers not driving right, trying to figure out WTF is wrong with their phone there by putting your kiddos in jeparody by their stupidity while driving. Prob not the best choice. Not to mention you might want to check with local law inforcement to check if installing a jammer in your vehicle is violating any laws where your live. But it is by bar nun a sure fire way of stopping Texting or Talking on the phone while driving. GOOD LUCK... D.W. :-)

So far, all the drivers I've noticed texting, or talking on cellphones were adults, not teens. I know the problem with teen texting exists, and it is serious, but who will educate those teens' parents?

Sure fire way to stop kids from texting and driving. Mount a web cam in the car and tell them 1st strike and you walk. They dont need to know the cameras not really transmitting. Psychological Warfare....

I posted this almost 3 days ago. Guess huffpost though so too. But it makes someone in a vehicle think twice. Same tactic we use at the prison. Inmate seem to not act like fools when they thonk your recording them.
