Every time a company goes through bankruptcy court or gets involved in merger talks, it's disappointing to see who does not have a seat at the negotiating table.

When news of a possible US Airways-American Airlines combination burst into the headlines a week ago, we heard from US Airways' clever chief executive, Doug Parker, who went behind the back of American's management and came to terms with American's unions on what the contracts would include in a combined carrier.
