Amidst doctors appointments and medical treatments, often the last thing the terminally ill have time for is pampering themselves. And yet they're the ones who deserve it most.
That's where the Beauty Bus Foundation comes in. This national nonprofit gives makeovers and pampering sessions to the chronically or terminally ill through in-home visits, pop-up salons and "bags of beauty" filled with complimentary products. Recently, the bus brought its services to the world-famous House of Blues and transformed the West Hollywood club into a salon, CBS reports.
Stylists provided manicures, pedicures, hairstyling, facials, and make-up to both patients and their caretakers, as depicted in the photos below. One beneficiary commented with emotion in her voice, "When the beauty bus comes to visit us, they not only make us beautiful but they make us feel wonderful."
The company was founded in memory of Melissa Marantz Nealy, who passed away at the age of 28 from a degenerative neuromuscular disease. Founder Alicia Marantz Liotta, Nealy's cousin, managed to schedule in-some beauty services for her cousin, and she saw what a difference it made. Liotta went on to found Beauty Bus with Nealy's sister. In the video below, the founders go on a home visit and talk about the painful experience of having their young loved one fall ill.
Janine Jarman, owner of the Hairroin Salon in the heart of Hollywood, is one of Beauty Bus' LA volunteer stylists. It is talented stylists like Jarman, who works with the Pussycat Dolls, Fergie and Scarlett Johansson, that allow Beauty Bus to give its clients the ultimate "celeb treatment."
