Chris Christie Responds To Jimmy Kimmel's Jabs At His Weight

Chris Christie Jimmy Kimmel

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) responded to jokes comedian Jimmy Kimmel made about his weight at the White House Correspondents Dinner on Saturday night.

At a news conference on Monday, Christie said that when you have Sofia Vergara "next to you to console you... you don't care what the heck Jimmy Kimmel said." Vergara was seated at the same table as the Republican governor at the annual event.

Christie added, "The minute he started joking about the president being too thin, believe me, I figured I was in the zone of danger."

Kimmel spoke after President Barack Obama on Saturday night.

"Look, it's Chris Christie, get him! You know, they say that inside every American governor is a president struggling to get out," the comedian quipped. "In Chris Christie’s case, it’s the only one where you can still hear him screaming."

Kimmel added, "Gov. Christie, I think you might be misunderstanding New Jersey’s slogan -- it's not ‘The Olive Garden State'."

Hmm, I wonder how consoled Mrs. Christie felt about that retort.

My governor is so fat that you can slap his butt and ride the waves! Oooh, governor fat jokes. Yo mamma redux, a whole 'nother genre.

I don't want someone with no personal discipline to govern. Sorry. Don't trust him with important decisions if he can't even put down a fork.

Weight plays no part in governance. Fiscal discipline and solving problems have nothing to do with the will to lose weight. Being overweight is a character flaw...we all have those.

While you are at it, you shouldn't trust Obama or any politician because he smokes, or drinks, ...not in public anymore, anyway.

Christie is a hard-liner sometimes, for sure. Yup, he's fat. But he can still hit the ground running and can think AS he speaks, even if it delivers in a not-so-sweet sound. We are SO used to grinning, frilly and nodding politicians who twiddle out whatever they think is going to make them popular...and they are exactly the kind of "leaders" who put NJ on a fast-track spiral DOWN. Christie is not going to break into chirpy phrases, banana-boat smiles and lullabye tunes for the teacher's union or squawkers in his audience or anyone else who is special interest-serving. But he's just what NJ needs to straighten out all it's messy problems, festering for more than 10 years. Christie, fat though he may be, has already opened the portals for change in the state in areas most pandering Govs before him just winked and blew gumdrop kisses at. Most people who really care about NJ hope Christie loses some poundage, because we want him to be around for a long, healthy time-- he's a truenpower-player and America needs strong, tough, unafraid men like him to REALLY bring about that "CHANGE" we heard so much about and are still waiting to see. He's not a brutal man-- just a steely, tough, no B.S. Gov. He promised to get NJ strong again and THAT is what he is working to do-- not just "make nice" for the media. Agreed? :-)

Know what? Some people have more heart and sensitivity to the feelings of others and they are offended when they hear "fat jokes" or any derogatory remarks directed at anyone. That doesn't mean they "have no sense of humor," it means they are gentle people who laugh a lot at kinder humor. That does NOT mean people who CAN laugh at themselves and others in an environment like a "Roast" are BAD, it just means they have thick skin and a thicker tongue. What some people might view as "cruel," others see as hardcore humor. I, personally, can appreciate some twisted jokes and humor, but I prefer not to attack anyone just for fun, so I understand how sensitive people are repulsed by Kimmel. Of course, I don't think Kimmel is very witty, but I DO like Betty White and she is pretty raw, ya know, when on the podium. As far as Christie is concerned, he probably didn't spend two minutes thinking about Kimmel, because Kimmel, seriously, doesn't matter much. Christie is a power-player and he has much more important things to think about than a so-so comedian like Kimmel, who will probably end his career opening for someone like Roseanne Barr in a boardwalk juice joint. So....why are WE getting all freaked out over this? :-)

Other than the fact that it probably threatens his health, it's not his weight that's objectionable, but the way he throws it around, showing up to prop up Walker, yelling at his constituents for daring to question him, accusing those who disagree with him of "lying".
07:26 AM on 08/29/2012
But don't you understand that the two are connected, his morbidly obese appearance fills him with such anger and bitterness, he is always on guard to any comment or quip about his weight that he responds to every disagreement or questioning of him as a jab at his giant size and reacts, don't you wonder why his reactions seem so out of proportion to the comment?
He was a baseball superstar in high school, the girls probably threw themselves at him daily and all the guys wanted to be in his shadow (insert fat joke here), and now people dance on egg shells around him trying desperately to avoid any comment about weight and he knows it and feels it everyday and it makes him angry and mean.

Christie took it well. Kimmel wants to tickle the Funny Bone; Christie wants to eat the Funny Bone. Christie is a good guy doing a good job. We need a Pres who can do a good job before we end up like Greece.

Perhaps if george bush the younger didn't start two useless wars, the economy would be in much better shape than it is today. And yes the bush family benefits very much from these ill conceived wars. Daddy bush has lots of investments with defense contractors, lot. I wonder how much stock the shrub and former "president" Cheney have with those defense contractors?
06:22 PM on 05/06/2012
Show a list of Bush's investments with defense contractors. And move on, Bush has been gone for almost four years. The biggest problem with the economy was caused by sub-prime loans; Blame the Democrats. Community Re-investment Act.

The WHCD is as much a "roast" as anything, and as such, anybody can be fair game for ANYBODY who remembers the old Roasts with the Rat Pack in the 60's and 70's. some of the comments were bitting, especially from Don Rickles, but everybody knew WHY they were there are were prepared for the "humor". So, if you can't take the heat, sit in the icebox alone. Which is what Allen West should have done.
11:38 PM on 05/01/2012
VERY valid observation! It's not a hospital auxiliary testimonial banquest, after all, is it? :-D

Definitly not, and since this has been going on since Coolidge, anybody who attends, and by invitation should be ready to be made fun of, just as the President is. I'll give Christy credit at his end, but Allen West was, and is, the idiot Kimmel painted him as, and then some.
03:55 PM on 05/01/2012
That was just cruel and mean of Jimmy Kimmel. He should be ashamed of himself. I thought we are trying to teach our kids that being a bully is bad. No something the first lady should laugh at
05:34 PM on 05/01/2012
Let's not overdo the "bully" thing. It's a real issue that can be dealt with in its place but not every incident needs to be classified as bullying. Everyone attending knew they were fair game. If you didn't like the Christie comments, then you probably had a problem with half of the rest of the material. Trust me, Mr. Tough Guy Governor can take it.
11:42 PM on 05/01/2012
Totally agree. Once again, this was not a Hospital Auxiliary Testimonial Banquet. Gov Christie is much tougher than anything Kimmel, who is essentially NON-essential, can gag out. This guy is taking on the NJ State Teacher's Union and a nastier, lower-hitting group can't be found anywhere to fight dirtier than them, when they are trying to save their corrupt, self-serving empire. :-)

Throwing off on people is never funny and that goes for Dem. or Reb.

I think it was a great night and the jokes were done tastefully. Even our president took them like a gentleman. If any of you have a problem with it then you sure didn't belong there.
