Pingeton

Cory Pingeton, an 18-year-old student at Franklin High School in Franklin, Mass., required medical attention after an unnamed suspect viciously attacked him in the school's hallway. After fleeing the campus following the attack, the suspected assailant now faces criminal charges, WBZ-TV reports.

Video of the attack later surfaced online and police have said the person who took the video -- who has not been identified -- could face legal action.

“I was in complete shock,” Pingeton told police, according the Milford Daily News. “I didn’t really know what was going on.”

Authorities believe the assault occurred after the suspect believed Pingeton was "talking trash about him" -- a claim the 18-year-old refutes.

According to the paper, Pingeton was treated at Milford Regional Medical Center for broken bones around his eye, a swollen retina and other injuries.

On Monday, WCVB-TV reported that the suspect will face felony assault charges.

The school also released a statement in support of Pingeton.

"This cowardly act is disturbing and it does not reflect the expectations we espouse as a school district or as a community," the school said in a statement according to WCVB-TV. "We are committed to ensuring all of our students are safe while they are in school."

When something like this happens where I live in California the school administration doesn't want to get involved. Violence at schools needs to come under the umbrella of Federal Law with mandatory consequences ranging from expulsion to prison. Bullying and violence continue because they are tolerated by those in authority.

first story i have read in quite some time where i agree entirely with the school. the correct course of action here is to make a major example of these 2. its not much of a loss, based on their actions here, they didnt have much of a future any way. this was the act of a scared insecure boy, overwhelming need to make himself feel strong, no balls to face his opponent up and up. these coward tactics wont work so well in jail. i think a few bouts of intestinal devastation while in jail is just what these 2 need.

this bullying epidemic is getting way out of hand. parents need to start punishing their kids more.

my friend's daughter is constantly being bullied at school, with the boys telling her to go in the bathroom and make herself puke and become bulimic...this other girl keeps telling her to off herself...the school says they have a zero tolerance policy for bullying but they dont enforce it. its ridiculous.

parents dont raise their children to respect anybody or anything these days. by the ttime kids are this age there is little schools can do---the parents have already not done too much

Basically this is correct.

People teach children to respect nothing and no one.

There is never any reason to use physical violence against another person just because you think, or know they are talking trash about you. Get yourself some self esteem. Now just because of this, the assailent is facing Felony assault charges, which probably will follow him the rest of his life...Sorry no college, no Military, no working at most schools, you get the point ? Stupid decision too because you can never change what others say about you with a simple act of violence. It just doesn't work.

Best way to beat a bully is to ostracize the bully. And maybe taking some self-defense classes wouldn't hurt either, especially when the bully tries to sucker-punch the "intended victim." With enough practice/training, at the very least, the student should be in a much better situation to defend one-self. With further training, the student will most likely see the "kill-shot" when in a fight.
