Royal Anniversary: Details Emerge On Kate And Will's 'Low-Key' Anniversary

We wondered how Kate and Will would mark the one-year anniversary of their wedding on Sunday: first came word that they would be spending it privately, at St. James's Palace. Then, on Thursday, a palace spokesperson said that the pair would get together with friends for "a celebration" on Saturday night.

A day later, the real details emerged: According to E!, the royal couple kept it low-key, attending -- along with Pippa Middleton -- the wedding celebration of close friends Hannah Gillingham and Robert Carter. The couple then retired back to their cottage for the rest of the weekend.

Still, their pal's ceremony, held at at St. Andrews Church in Wingfield, England, wasn't without moments that harkened back to Will and Kate's much-discussed wedding last year.

"They sat close to the front of the church, so they had to walk down the aisle together to get there," an onlooker told Us Weeky. "It made a few people chuckle."

But the humble royals made it a point to not let their anniversary overshadow their friends' nuptials.

"Lots of people congratulated them on their first year anniversary," a witness said, "But they seemed quite keen not to take any attention away from the bride and groom."

After Saturday night's festivities, the Daily Beast reports that the couple stayed for lunch Sunday, before heading back to their Anglesey, Wales cottage to enjoy what one royal aid described as "a very special day at home."
