Kelly Rutherford Sued: Private Eye Sues Actress For Unpaid Services

Like a page ripped from the script of "Gossip Girl," Kelly Rutherford -- who plays Serena van der Woodsen's mother on the hit CW show -- has found herself on the hot seat for a scheme gone horribly wrong.

TMZ reports that the 43-year-old actress hired a private detective to spy on ex-husband Daniel Giersch in April 2010 -- but fell short on paying him the total bill of $86,249.85. Now Rutherford has been slapped with a lawsuit that alleges that Rutherford owes the detective more than $58,000 in unpaid fees, which accounts for several months of investigative services.

Rutherford and Giersch, a German businessman, split after two years of marriage in December 2008, when Rutherford was three months pregnant with their second child. The former couple waged a bitter and ugly divorce battle that saw each party fighting for custody over their two children, Helena and Hermes, and making wild accusations against each other. (It even resulted in a restraining order against Giersch for allegedly threatening the children's nanny). The divorce was finalized in July 2010.
