Obama Fails To Stem Middle-Class Slide He Blamed on Bush

Bloomberg  |  By Posted: 05/ 1/2012 8:17 am

President Obama Labor Unions

Bloomberg:

Barack Obama campaigned four years ago assailing President George W. Bush for wage losses suffered by the middle class. More than three years into Obama’s own presidency, those declines have only deepened.

The rebound from the worst recession since the 1930s has generated relatively few of the moderately skilled jobs that once supported the middle class, tightening the financial squeeze on many Americans, even those who are employed.

Gosh, I wonder why he didn't get that freight train stopped, turned around, and speeding in the other direction in just 1000 short days. He must be a failure. I'm sure the repugs know just exactly how to do that and they're just waiting to get back into the saddle to share their foolproof guaranteed-to-work, prosperity-for-all programs.

Republicans in Congress and courts simply continued the failed Bush policies, which explains our lack of sufficient progress. Tax cuts for wealthy, lay off gov workers, attack labor....same play book, different players.

All of which Obama continued by signing extensions of those policies into law. Obama just had them turned up to eleven.

Because Republicans forced austerity including layoffs of hundreds of thousands of workers. They tied Obama's hands.

Of course he failed, because he copied up to wall street like Clinton did. How you win without doing that is the 5 trillion dollar question.

He did say that he would rather be a good 1-term president than an inept 2-term president. It looks like he's not going get his wish. With Romney as the contender, we will have another term of pain under Obama.

obama is a great talker but the simple fact that a few simple minds refuse to accept is that talk is cheap action gets results. the blame game obama has spent the past few years playing is a very old trick in the bag of party favors american politicans pass amoungst themselves, until the people of this nation stop worshiping their leaders and start holding them to the task this will continue, but the next chapter will possibly be that mitt fella saying "its obama's fault".

Really whats old is that for many previous administrations the would get done things usually in a bipartisan manner. But not with today's REP party. Publicly they said they would do whatever possible to make BO a one term pres which equals say NO to policies needed to get us going again during this crisis. Someone, somebody is not standing up and doing the job to help and keep the US as great as it can be. Therefore, blame is appropriate to lay at those responsible for saying NO to everything!
The pres is a powerful person! Note that is singular as in one person! There is plenty of those with more power and sway not ever mentioned that IMO are partly responsible for setting obstruction ajenda. But then we know there are those that are just all about the REP no matter what and those that don't like the fact of a Black men in the OO! Its hard to gets things done with at hand.

To save the middle class its realitively simple ....drop the corp tax rate to 5% for 10 -15 years to any foreign company to move their hq and all their manuf. to the usa. Well as any usa corp to move all their off shore manuf back to the usa. Multi nationals corps cannot do this but it would attrack small to medium size corp.
States and cities could direct new companies to locate in tax free zones in high unemployment areas.

Unemployment is a plague on society....and ALL our elected officials are not listening to the people.

Failed Bush policies. Been there, done that.

We don't need to lower taxes. If Republicans would let Federal dollars flow to the states again, those states would be able to hire several million teachers and firemen. That would increase employment, increase demand and prompt the private sector to start hiring again. It's really quite easy, but the Republicans would rather destroy this country with Hoover-like tactics.

The President can't do it alone. If the Republican in Congress stopped saying No that might have helped. One man cannot do it all.

A president has only so many options if one party, in this case the Republicans, obstruct any attempt to get the country back to work.
This man can do only so much when the Republican party throws a collective tantrum in an attempt to keep the economy as bad as possible so they can try to regain power.

More hypocrisy and pure intent to divide from of one of the great pretenders who would like people to believe that calling themselves a christian means they are nice people.

I think in order to increase UN-employment like we did back in 2008, before President Obama was sworn in, we need another major tightening of credit to households and to those who are credit dependent like small businesses. This could help put a few more million people out of work. If you like this idea, vote Republican.

That darned Bush! He must have a voodoo doll of Obama that he sticks into the fire on a frequent basis! So, as usual, (say it with me all you leftists!): "IT'S BUSH'S FAULT!"

It absolutely is true, to all those who have IQs in single digits! I didn't hear Bush wasting a lot of time blaming Clinton's failure to 'pull the trigger' when it came to the several opportunities Clinton had to take out, or at least get hold of, Bin Laden, before or after 9/11. But this country elected a punk to occupy the WH, we'll continue to reap the result of that.

Clearly, the United States is not the "peaceful" democracy and civil society it claims to be, Obama has proven that much.
08:40 AM on 05/02/2012
REally?

Had not a single thing to do with the FACT that the right wing's only intention for the past 3.5 years has been one thing:  to cause everything that the Obama administration proposes to fail.

When they say "We like this thing." and then Obama says, "you know - I do too - let's do that" they instantly say "No way - we will never do that even though only 5 minutes ago it was our idea!"

That is very simply what the problem in this country is:  People like them and people who vote for them like you.

There's only so much the president can do when the opposition refuses to negotiate in good faith because the oppposition has signed treasonous pledges to support the tax policy of an unelected man. The Republican Faith is a religious party that says "no' even more often than it says "amen." The voters see it. We'll vote accordingly. Imagine how much different things could have been if Mitch McConnell and his party weren't on record for being dedicated to defeating the president instead of dedicated to upholding the constitution and helping the American people.

When inflation eats at both ends of the income, class mobility will slide. The devalued overprinted dollar is worth less so prices are skyrocketing. Meanwhile wages stay the same but paid for in declining dollars. Add to that the number of total unemployed and those taking menial jobs trying to get by. If this admin would use real numbers, the figures would be much worse.

The CPI is a joke and a manufactured number. Instead of comparing the price of Cheerios last year to the price of Cheerios now, they compare it to ten pound sack off brand. Instead of comparing steak to steak, they compare steak to hamburger.
09:17 PM on 05/02/2012
If inflation is so high, why are investors flocking to gov bonds with close to 0% interest? The answer is that the rate of inflation is miniscule.
