David Barton, an evangelical Christian activist and author, thinks the real Thomas Jefferson is in hiding.
In his new book, "The Jefferson Lies," which he discussed with Jon Stewart on "The Daily Show," Barton argues that the faith of the third President of the United States is perhaps the most misunderstood aspect of his life. Atheists portray him as an atheist. Others say he was secular. Barton, who is considered one of the most influential evangelicals in America, argues that Jefferson let religion influence every aspect of his public and private life.
In the extended interview, Barton and Stewart spar about prayer in school, religious diversity in America, Catholic hospitals and more. Watch the rest of the conversation between David Barton and Jon Stewart from last night's "The Daily Show."
