Eder Loor--the NYPD officer stabbed in the head by a crazed man in Harlem-- was released from the hospital Wednesday to the sound of bagpipes and the applause of about 100 fellow cops.
"I'm not 100 percent normal but I'm just happy that I'm alive," he said, according to CBS.
Loor's wife, Dina, was by his side as he was wheeled out of the hospital by his partner, officer Lucksome Merisme. Dina is pregnant with the couple's second child. "I just can't thank God enough for giving us a second chance at life together," she said.
On April 17th, Loor and Merisme responded to a 911 call from a distraught mother who was having trouble controlling her mentally unstable 26-year-old son, The New York Post reported. She met Loor and Merisme outside the Franklin Plaza Housing Complex in East Harlem at about 10:45 AM, and gave a description of her son, Terrance Hale.
The cops caught up with Hale as he was leaving the building and tried to apprehend him. Suddenly, however, Hale plunged a three-and-a-half inch blade it into Loor's forehead, just above his left eye, police said.
The New York Daily News reports, "The knife came within inches of killing or permanently maiming Loor, who had made an amazing recovery."
Inspector William Pla was awestruck Wednesday. "If you saw the condition he came in, and the way he was leaving today," he said, "it was a miracle."
