Pearl Jam Album: Stone Gossard Teases 2013 Record Release

Good News For Pearl Jam Fans: New Album Coming In 2013?

They're still alive. In a new interview with Billboard, Pearl Jam guitarist Stone Gossard revealed the seminal rock band is "between half and three quarters done" on a new album. The untitled record could get released as early as the first quarter of 2013.

"[W]e got some new material and we're excited about hopefully doing some more work on that later in the year," Gossard said of the coming Pearl Jam album.

Pearl Jam's last effort was the independently released Backspacer in 2009. That record -- Pearl Jam's ninth release overall -- sold 189,000 copies in its first week of release to top the Billboard 200 list, the only independent album to do so that year. Backspacer was also Pearl Jam's first No. 1 album since 1996's No Code, and stayed on the Billboard 200 longer than any of the band's releases since Yield in 1998.

Always a touring band, Pearl Jam is planning to head back on the road this year as well. "We're going to try to play a little bit more this year," Gossard said. "Not too much, but a few things."

Frontman Eddie Vedder had to postpone a recent solo tour because of nerve damage in his arm. Per Gossard, the singer is making good progress.
