Bain Family Disappearance Turns Into Wider Police Search (VIDEO)

Missing Family
Jo Ann Bain and her three daughters disappeared last Friday just before she and husband Gary were set to move the family to Arizona. Police now want to question family friend Adam Christopher Mayes.

Investigators in Hardeman County, Tenn., have ramped up the search for a mother who disappeared with her three daughters last Friday and hope a man they are calling a person of interest can shed light on the case.

Jo Ann Bain and daughters Adrienne, 14, Alexandria, 12, and Kyliyah, 8, were last seen leaving their home in Whiteville, located between Jackson and Memphis, on Friday morning. Bain's Dodge Durango was found abandoned on a county road less than three miles from their home on Sunday.

Now the Hardeman County Sheriff's Department is investigating family friend Adam Christopher Mayes, 35, of Guntown, Miss. Officers questioned him on Sunday and issued a warrant for his arrest on Tuesday, charging him with filing a false report based on statements he'd made to investigators about the Bain family, ABC News reported.

"We believe he has information on the whereabouts of this family," Hardeman County Sheriff John Doolan said at a news conference Wednesday, but declined to go into specifics.

"No sign of foul play," Doolen told MyFoxMemphis. "Not ruling it out though."

According to Doolen, the family planned to move to Arizona last weekend and hopes Mayes can help fill in the missing pieces of this strange disappearance.

Bain may have disappeared, but her Facebook page seems to be somewhat active, even accepting a Facebook request on Wednesday.

Sheriff Doolen told MyFoxMemphis that Bain is not the person who accepted the request, but that detectives do know who is doing so and that's part of the investigation.

Meanwhile, Jo Ann's husband, Gary Bain, is avoiding the media until Hardeman County deputies approve, but WREG-TV reports that he did post a message on her Facebook page on Tuesday saying he loved her and the girls, writing, "Please call or just come home. There is nothing we can't work through together. We always have and I hope we always will."

"... family friend Adam Christopher Mayes, 35, of Guntown, Miss..." Let's see, this guy has 3 names and is from "Guntown"; sounds suspicious!

so much of this is happening now a days,so sad, It makes me think could the husband and wife been going thru trouble and she found this other man and decided to leave, It just strikes me odd that it was the mom and all three kids, if it was an abduction you would think that one of the four could have gotten away or screamed and ran for help..must stay tuned definately more to this story. I pray they return or are found unharmed!

It has since been reported that he killed the mother and oldest daughter and buried them in a shallow grave behind his mothers home (who is also now in custody, along with his wife).

May...possible....could be......such stupid speculation when there is no reason to defame the husband. Stick with the facts, posters.

What conspiracy?
Just a lot more creeps out there... And don't forget, we keep getting more of them from other countries AND the ones who were in prison, were let out to make space for new criminals!
That's not a conspiracy - that's the facts!

There are no more and maybe even less creeps out there then there have ever been. The difference is we hear about it more. You should hear the stories my 83 year old mother tells about growing up in the North woods of Minnesota. Stuff like this has been going on forever. We just have instant access to it now.

Arizona is currently in the Moronisphere. Given the choice of moving there or disappearing...

I read a few other articles about this case and they also say the family was moving because one of the children had severe asthma. They also indicated that the father was the adoptive father of the 2 older girls and the biological father of the youngest. All the other articles pointed out that the police were not looking at the father. This doesnt sound like a wife fleeing abuse situation.

I know it does not state here in the article but I just read that the family was going to move to Arizona because one of the children has asthma. To me it sounds like both the husband and the wife made the choice together to move to Arizona. I hope that they are all safe and sound.

This sounds a lot like the case of the missing mom from the same general area last year. Her car was found abandoned not far from her home.
02:20 PM on 05/04/2012
If there was abuse, that person usually stays, and the abused leave as fast as they can. If thats the case, good for her and her children.
03:23 PM on 05/04/2012
I don't think that is what happened here. No claims of abuse from anyone that knew these people. I would be more inclined to think there was another relationship that the wife had, OR that she could have gotten herself into some financial trouble OR she could be unbalanced. That happened to my brother. His wife was bi-polar i think and she would occasionally threaten to take their son and disappear. She did once, but fortunately returned after about a week.

It doesnt look like the police are looking at the husband/father. And no family or friends have come out and said there any kind of abuse. So my guess is that they were indeed having marital problems and that the wife decided that rather go through a divorce and share custody of the girls, she would just take them and disappear.
