The American Society of Magazine Editors announced the winners of their annual contest for best magazine covers on Thursday.

The October 3, 2011 issue of New York Magazine — entitled "Is She Just Too Old for This?" — won "Best Cover." Magazine editors plucked it from a group of thirty finalists in various categories.

"The editors deliberately chose a model representing the story at it most extreme and photographed her in the pose made iconic by Demi Moore on the cover of Vanity Fair," ASME said of the winning cover. "The over-the-top poster-like cover was meant to stop consumers in their tracks—and it did."
