Carolann Nunez, a Texas high school student with Down syndrome, was crowned prom queen on Saturday, KVIA-7's Jennifer Myers reports.
After learning about Nunez's desire to be a prom queen, her classmates, friends and family campaigned for her, making posters and taking to social media to get the word out.

"Carolann has dreamed of being prom queen for years and years," Michael Nunez, her father, told KVIA-7. "She's watched Disney movies with prom queens getting crowned. For years and years she's always wanted to be prom queen."
When asked how she felt about all the support she had received from her friends and family, Nunez said she was "[s]o proud of them," adding that her parents helped her "make a dream come true."
Last month, Taryn Mains, a senior with Down syndrome, was chosen to be the prom queen at Mason County High School in Maysville, Ky., Lex18 reports. And in the fall, Mariah Slick, who was born with Down syndrome, was voted prom queen at Azle High School in Azle, Texas.
