That Robert Pattinson-Saddam Hussein movie you've been waiting for has finally arrived. (What?)
Per a press release to the trades (via Deadline.com), the "Twilight" star has become attached to "Mission: Blacklist," a true-life story about Eric Maddox, the military interrogator who helped coordinate the capture of Hussein on Dec. 13, 2003. The script for "Blacklist" is based on Maddox's novel, "Mission: Black List #1." Erik Jendresen ("Band of Brothers") wrote the adaptation, with Jean-Stéphane Sauvaire set to direct.
“This movie is a gripping, edge of your seat thriller,” said Ross Dinerstein, managing partner of Preferred Content, in a statement. “I have been inspired by Robert and Jean-Stéphane’s dedication to tell this story in the most authentic way possible."
While Pattinson is best known around the world for playing the sparkly Edward Cullen in the billion-dollar grossing "Twilight" franchise, his post-vampire role selections have become increasingly eclectic. He played the romantic lead in "Water for Elephants," but followed that up with David Cronenberg's adaptation of Don DeLillo's "Cosmopolis." The addition of "Mission: Blacklist" to his resume will only further separate Pattinson's career from his Tiger Beat fan base. For longevity purposes, that seems like a good thing.
"Blacklist" will head to the Cannes Film Market to sell. Pattinson will be at the Cannes Film Festival for the premiere of "Cosmopolis."
