Ana Juarez, Girl Scout Troop Leader, Allegedly Stole $6,000 In Cookie Money

Ana Juarez allegedly stole $6,000 in cookie money from her own Girl Scout troop.

Apparently she didn't get the "integrity" memo in the Girl Scouts handbook.

A South El Monte, Calif., Girl Scout troop leader was caught with her hand in the cookie jar last month when authorities discovered she allegedly stole $6,000 from her own girls, CBS reported.

Cops announced this week that Ana Juarez, 30, was arrested on April 17 for allegedly using the troop's debit card to treat herself to a shopping spree.

"It was just shocking to see that we became her own personal piggy bank: gas, nails, Nordstroms, Victoria's Secret," troop co-leader Verna de los Reyes told the station.

About $2,000 was missing from the troop's debit account, along with $4,000 in cash that was raised during the Girl Scout cookie sale, de los Reyes said.

But the cash reportedly didn't even make it to Juarez's own bank account before she spent it, the Pasadena Star-News reported. A troop mom told CBS that the girls had sold more than 500 boxes of cookies for a Girl Scout competition and the chance at a limousine ride, but now there's not enough money for the venture.

The alleged cookie cash thief had a 6-year-old daughter in the troop before she was arrested. She was charged with felony grand theft.

Anyone can have a child but not everyone can be a "parent". 6,000$ is grand theft. She should get 60 months in jail.

Actually, grand theft is a felony and no one is supposed to spend more than 12 months in jail. What you mean is she should spend that amount of time in prison, which is similar but different.

If the kid is only 6 she is a Daisy Scout NOT as Girl Scout. Only 25 cents per box sold goes to the actual troop selling them. The rest goes to their "headquarters for administrative costs".

Diasy Scouts ARE girl scouts, just the youngest level (Grades K-1).

In a $3.50 box of cookies, 89 cents goes to the baker, the individual troop gets 57-61 cents, and the remaining goes to the local Girl Scout Council to maintain facilities - including summer camps - to provide fee waivers for girls who can't afford membership so that no girl is turned away, to subsidize costs of summer camp, and to provide council-wide activities in which all troops are allowed to participate. The national office does not get any of the $3.50, but instead has a royalty agreement with the baker.

When I was a kid, the Mom who was in charge of sale proceeds told us that her maid stole all the money. The Mom never pressed charges and didn't make good on the missing funds. No one, no one, believed the maid was the thief.

The alleged cookie cash thief had a 6-year-old daughter in the troop before she was arrested..

Ok, so she does not have a 6 year old daughter now?

Either way, what was she thinking? Poor example to set for her daughter. But then, knowing the media this could have been a case of miscommunication. Why would she have access to the troops debit account? This just does not feel like the "whole story".

Because leaders have a debit accord to the troop account so we can buy supplies and badges and deposit cookie money, camp money and registration money that comes in. I'm a Girl Guide leader in Canada, and when the cash comes in from the girls, its our responsibility to fill out the deposit slips and take the cash to the bank. That's why she had access to the account...All leaders do. To hear that she stole from it is horrible. Just proves she's an idiot because the balances get audited every month; its not just free money that nobody's paying attention too. Her daughter must be so proud of her mother now.

Low-life criminal. Please keep her in jail for at least six months. (I know they won't)!

Wonder if that's her "real" name? How about her husband? I'd pull a search warrant on that house, bet you find numerious social security cards, false bank statements etc. Ahhhhhh...the American dream.

Watch the video...I wonder how much crap in her husbands garage is stolen goods?
06:28 AM on 05/07/2012
She will get a "slap on the wrist". Her defense will be; " Really, I didn't kill anyone, whats the big deal"! She will get 50 yrs. to pay the money back.

That is terrible, I can't even imagine what her daughter thinks, how sad, they need to make an example of her.........

Well, at least the girls in that troop will now get to see first hand what happens to thieves. This will be a good life lesson for them. It sucks that their money was stolen and will never be recovered. Maybe background checks for troop leaders are in order from now on?

Aaaah.....the plot thickens......

FROM:
"losangeles.cbslocal" (as well as other outlets)

Juarez also had an arrest warrant out stemming from a 2001 grand theft embezzlement case in Huntington Park, the Star News reports.

Evidently, this is not the "first" time she has had her hand in someone's "cookie jar"......
