Stephen Colbert: Obama Vs. Romney Will Come Down To 'Who Has Been Crueler To A Dog' (VIDEO)

WATCH: Colbert Predicts What Will Determine 2012 Race

Stephen Colbert predicted the most critical factor for the 2012 election on Friday's "Today."

Colbert sat down with David Gregory to discuss his new children's book "I Am A Pole (And So Can You!)." But before getting to the book, the two talked politics.

The comedian revealed that his superPAC is raising more money than Ron Paul's, and also got more donations than Mitt Romney in Texas during March.

When asked if he thought young people would approach the race differently than they did in 2008, Colbert said he wasn't sure.

"[Obama] was the fresh-faced kid who could relate to the youth, but now he's Old Grandpa Gray Hair who didn't close Gitmo," he said. "So I don't know if they're as excited as they once were... cause when it comes to kids, Mitt Romney's got the electricity."

When asked what he believed would be the most crucial factor of the election, however, his answer was more decisive: "who has been crueler to a dog."

Colbert predicted that the race would come down to "whether it's crueler for an adult man to strap a dog to his car and drive for twelve hours, or for a ten-year old boy to eat dog given to him by his stepfather."

"As far as I can tell, that's the biggest differentiation between the two," he added.
