Man Survives Getting Hit By One Car, Then Dies When Hit By Second

A New Jersey man pushing his broken SUV off the road was hit by two cars and died Thursday night, according to the Associated Press.

William J. Cassano, 40, of Brick Township, was driving along Route 70 when his Toyota 4Runner stalled in the center lane at around 8:45 p.m. While trying to move the SUV onto the state highway's shoulder, Cassano was struck by an Oldsmobile driven by William Cox, 23, of Freehold, NJ.com reports.

The force sent Cassano flying 30 feet toward the center of the road, but according to a witness report, Cassano got up and said he wasn't hurt. Then, after he dusted himself off, Cassano got hit by a second car -- a Toyota Yaris driven by Courtney J. Bannigan, 23, of Brick Township, according to Brick Patch.

Cassano was pinned between the two vehicles that hit him and died at the scene, the Star-Ledger reported.

Neither driver who hit Cassano was hurt.

The investigation is ongoing and any witnesses to the crash are asked to come forward to the Brick Police Traffic Safety Unit.
