The 2012 Met Gala red carpet came and went, with dozens of stars walking the treacherous Metropolitan Museum steps. But after two hours of the step-and-repeat routine, Beyonce was nowhere to be seen.
We waited and waited, for at least 30 minutes. Maybe Blue Ivy couldn't get a sitter? Maybe she and Jay-Z were simply watching the livestream from their Tribeca pad?
But of course, in Beyonce came, accompanied up the stairs by none other than Andre Leon Talley. And the dress was worth the wait: a dramatic black lace Givenchy confection, almost completely sheer from top to bottom. Seriously, you could see the outline of Bey's entire lower body. Did Tina Knowles have a say in this?
It was a much racier, more complicated look than we were expecting -- and we can't decide how we feel about it. Check Beyonce's dramatic entrance. Do you love this Met Gala look?

To all the other comments...IT'S.JUST.A.DRESS!!! WHY do people think that because it shows of a little bit to much she is 'trying to get the attention' or 'trying to stay in the game'? Why couldn't she wear it just because, oh, I don't know, SHE LIKED IT? Jesus.

I like the dress and Beyonce but the main problem is...IT'S TOO SHEER! I'm all for showing skin (in a tasteful manner) but it just looks like a leotard that's sewn together with a bottom heavy fur train...but if the dress and underbody were a litte darker it could work!

As a person that really has no qualms about revealing clothing, in particular this dress was not a good display of Givenchy at it's finest hour. This was Givenchy being very Bob Mackie and not in a good way, and Beyonce was Cher in this hour. On the same note, at The Met Gala if you saw Marion Cotillard and Rooney Mara both wearing see-through sheer dresses, but they looked glamorous, and elegantly classy. It's possibly this Givenchy dress was just put on the wrong body. Beyonce needs to stick to dresses that work for her. This was absolutely not one of those, and you can see she's not comfortable by her unrelaxed posture and holding her sides with her hands in every shot. Bad choice.

I guess she wore the dress for those with no imagination. She left little to it. She has a lovely figure...and seemingly wants us to know it. The "train" was a wreck. In my opinion. Life.

The dress is beautifully made and the purple train is so pretty. The whole color palette goes well together. But, I still find the dress tacky and to wear it, very classless. Bey has never been big on either. JMO

Sometimes less is more....At first glance this dress is stunning, but as often happens, Beyonce takes it much too far. Is there ever a time for this woman to exhibit some understate elegance? Guess not. Little less "fierce" and little more class would serve her well.

Beyonce is beautiful all over, no doubt, but I don't think that dress is in good taste. The fact that we are debating it here is proof of that. I agree with the posters who characterize it as a Vegas show-girl look. Trampy. It doesn't seem to suit her character.

WOW. A home run for Beyonce. You go girl. Only you could wear this dress like it is supposed to be worn. This dress was made for you. Yes a goddess you are.

Beyondme's dress is testament to the fact that just because you have fame and money does not mean you have taste and class..look at the karcrashian klan of klowns. She, Beyondme, demonstrates that she has no opinion of her own and believes that she is being advised to best display your fashion savvy. Mr. Talley is more concerned with raising his and Mr, Tisci's fashion profile than with the wearer of this absurd confection.....how many readers realize that this "dress" cost around $50k and then I want to know what you think

The dress is gorgeous. I wish I had the body to wear it. Where I don't know. Probably in and around my house cause there's no where around here that I could pull off wearing it to. The only problem I see is it shows her asset and you only see that when she bends over a little. I'm sure she didn't know that was happening besides I've seen more assets than that from people wearing hot shorts or thong bikinis.

She's a beautiful woman. But the level of revealing in this outfit seems to be too much. She is an established, awesome talent. Why should she be subjected to trying so hard? I don't think she has anything to prove. Perhaps it's my age - but I see this sort of outfit appropriate for a wannabe who needs attention, rather than an established talent who certainly doesn't need to prove to anyone that she's still beautiful merely because she's no longer 20 and childless!
