Matthew Perry Comedy Awards 2012: Star Says Women Have Always Been Funny (VIDEO)

The Huffington Post  |  By Posted: 05/07/2012 7:14 pm Updated: 05/07/2012 7:37 pm

In an infamous 2007 Vanity Fair article, the late Christopher Hitchens spared no ink in explaining "Why Women Aren't Funny." But after Sunday night's 2012 Comedy Awards, it's clear that at least one notable funny man disagrees with the assertion.

First posted by BuzzFeed, a video clip from the second annual installment of the Comedy Central awards show features Matthew Perry taking on the idea in front of the audience.

"This year we saw many hilarious performances by women - as well as many idiotic articles from men about how women suddenly became funny," Perry said. "This wasn't the year women finally became funny, this was the year men finally pulled their heads out of their asses."

Cleverly put, indeed. And most likely a comment that will make women love Matthew Perry even more.

Watch Matthew Perry's comments on women and humor in the above video.

And Matthew Perry knows funny.

If the point is that women are as funny as Perry...not even Hitchens or Jerry Lewis would bother to argue...

Nah, smart men realize that "funny" is totally subjective. Point taken anyway though.

Yes, he read that teleprompter and what the show's writers came up with brilliantly.

You must be one of the few people who would read something you didn't believe off a teleprompter to an audience of possibly millions. Matthew Perry is smarter than you.
