'Take A Walk': Passion Pit Single Goes Viral (AUDIO)

New Passion Pit Single Goes Viral

Passion Pit sure know how to make a comeback. Today, the Cambridge, Mass.-based band made "Take A Walk," the lead single from their upcoming album "Gossamer," available on their website.

The song, which showcases the "expansive" sound of the band's forthcoming album, sparked immediate renewed interest in their rousing electro-pop rhythms. NME even called it the band's "comeback."

While "Take A Walk" is a welcome return to form, the song's lyrics betray its breezy, summery groove. Between choruses fit for a lazy rooftop barbecue, the band explores themes of financial struggle and prosperity through the eyes of an immigrant who works tirelessly "to bring [his] family stateside."

The song's subject matter may be indicative of a darker turn signaled by Passion Pit songwriter Michael Angelakos. In a March 2012 interview with Pitchfork, Angelakos copped to "vilifying" himself on "Gossamer," and becoming obsessed with "perfect songwriting craftsmanship."

Passion Pit's first album, "Manners" was released in 2009. It received critical acclaim, and was followed by a series of remixes in 2010 and 2011.

"Gossamer" will be released July 23 on Columbia Records.
