'Law And Order: SVU' Renewed: Season 14 Coming To NBC, 'Chicago Fire' Gets Series Order

'Law & Order: SVU' Gets Season 14!

"Law & Order: SVU" has been renewed. The Dick Wolf series will keep the "Law & Order" franchise alive for an impressive 14th season. NBC has also handed out a series order to Wolf's "Chicago Fire."

An "SVU" renewal seemed likely after series star Mariska Hargitay renewed her contract.

"I'll be back. I can't leave this show," Hargitay said in January. "I'm having too much fun."

The series went through a sort of rebirth during Season 13. Christopher Meloni left the series after Season 12 and longtime showrunner Neal Baer left the show, with Warren Leight taking the reins. Kelli Giddish and Danny Pino joined the cast as two new detectives and the show began to explore the personal life of Hargitay's character Detective Olivia Benson. Hargitay has been with the series since its debut in 1999.

"When I first got this job, I was so excited because I've been on two first-year shows in the last three years and it's just such a blessing to be on a show that is stable and has been around and has got a definite fanbase," she said. "But also, it's not afraid of changing it up and they did change it up this year.

"SVU" has slipped in the Nielsen ratings, but is still one of NBC's top programs. Its most recent episode was watched by 6.6 million viewers.

"Chicago Fire" stars Teri Reeves as Hallie, David Eigenberg as Christopher Hermann, Charlie Barnett as Peter Mills, Lauren German as Leslie Shay, Monica Raymund as Gabriella Dawson, Taylor Kinney as Kelly Severide, Jesse Spencer as Matthew Casey, Eamonn Walker as Battalion Chief Walter Boden and Merle Dandridge as Kay Fitori. The two dramas join "Smash," "Grimm," and J.J. Abrams' post-apocalyptic drama on NBC's schedule. On the comedy side, NBC has ordered new shows "Go On," "The New Normal," "1600 Penn," "Save Me" and "Animal Practice." The Peacock network will announce its full schedule on Mon., May 14.
