Any teens out there looking for a summer job?
The Huffington Post just got a hold of a casting call for a reality TV show about eight Malibu students, either graduating seniors or returning juniors, who live in Malibu and Santa Monica.
Called "Our Summer," the show is seeking students "on the verge of summer break" who can stand to have a camera crew follow them around during childhood's final summers (sorry if we're getting a little nostalgic for simpler times).
While a reality TV show about young people living by the beach might not sound innovative (hello, Jersey Shore!), the casting call promises that, "unlike any other, this documentary series will feature the real lives of real teens in real time" and that it will be at "the helm of social media."
Casting director Shaggy Bajrami told Malibu Patch that the show is casting a wide net over westside high schools in Los Angeles. Ultimately, only a group of students from one high school can make the cut. "The whole thing depends on the most amazing personalities," Bajrami said to Malibu Patch. "We are hoping it will come from Malibu. It would be great if they all know each other."
That sounds a lot like the idea for a reality show that was floating around in 2010, when producer (and professional surfer) Lexi von der Leith proposed a high school documentary that would be filmed by the students themselves using flip cameras. At the time, von der Leigh promised that the show would be "innocent," with "no drinking or anything," and that the series wouldn't exploit students.
Heidi Montag (famous for starring in MTV's "The Hills" and undergoing 10 plastic surgery procedures in a row) was slated to executive produce von der Leith's project.
The current casting call mentions that "Our Summer" is a project from the director behind MTV's "The Real World" and the executive producer of MTV's "The Hills" and "The City."
We've reached out to von der Leith to confirm whether or not this is her project. In the meantime, here's more information about the casting call so you can pass it on as either a tip to a budding reality star, or as a warning to Malibu parents.
