Micah Short Charged With First-Degree Murder For Allegedly Beating Crying Infant Daughter

New Orleans Police say that a man fatally beat his 2-month-old daughter last week because she would not stop crying.

Micah Short, 21, initially told authorities that he tripped over a box while carrying the infant, Macayla Short, causing the girl to hit her head on a crib, according to an official police statement.

Short later admitted that, in fact, he became irate with the child's "excessive" weeping, police said. The incident happened Monday around 8 a.m.

Short and his wife rushed the girl to the hospital, where she died despite several attempts to resuscitate her.

The suspect's brother told local media that the incident was out of character and a mistake.

"She was a good kid. She wasn't here for that long, but it's sad to hear what happened to her," Macayla's uncle, Junior Short, told WDSU. "My brother, he's not the offensive type of person. He ain't never been to jail, so I don't know what he doing right now."

The Orleans Parish coroner's office concluded that the child suffered blunt force trauma to the head, the Times-Picayune reported.

Authorities booked Short on Tuesday and charged him with first-degree murder and cruelty to a juvenile. He is being held at Orleans Parish Prison.

Micah Short's perpetration of filicide is reprehensible and heinous. There aren't enough words to describe the evil nature of this individual.

One comment below, was made by someone who allegedly 'knows him personally'. The poster defends Short and portrays him as an "affectionate, kind-hearted person who was thrilled being a father." I strongly differ with that assertion. One does NOT transform overnight from an "affectionate, kind-hearted person", to a violent monster!

I sincerely hope Short gets the punishment he so richly deserves. The death penalty would be too easy for him. He should live out the rest of his life looking over his shoulder in general population.

After all, he's a big boy who can take care of himself. He's NOT two-months-old!

Child ABUSE ALWAYS has early warning signs . It starts very subtle and progresses .As long as any aggressive behavior or vebal abuse is ignored by a spouse or family members and let it slide by ,the abuser has control and has done so by creating a fear of them . Any time you see someone hitting any object or a animal ,its sending a message this is what you will get if you cross me . A person that can be easily irritated or bothered or INCONVENIENCED by a child playing or crying is a WARNING . If you let him abuse YOU he will continue to a child or animal and anything or anyone you love .He will use all he knows you enjoy and love to hurt you and have know remorse and will justify why he did it .

The things I see people posting in this comment section are almost as disturbing as the incident itself. I personally know Micah Short. He wasn't an ignorant thug as most of you would like to believe. He was an affectionate, kind hearted person who was thrilled to be a father. Micah was about as likely to intentionally harm his daughter as the pope is to worship Satan. Police push hard when trying to get confessions. When Micah brought Mikayla to the hospital he was placed in room away from his wife and they were "interrogated" separately. It's easy to get a false confession out someone who is sleep deprived and under immense stress. I'm sure that losing one's infant would qualify as such. If you people knew the real Micah Short, and not this monster that the sensationalist media is trying to portray, you would hesitate to make such evil, vindictive remarks about someone whom you know nothing about.

Micah Short is short on brains and should never have fathered a child & his brothers comment about a 2 month old sounds kinda strange too (he said she was a good kid?? the infant was only 8 weeks old not old enough to warrant a label good kid yet... all babies do at that age is coo cry sleep and eat). If you can't take care of a child don't have one. ps. they do cry a lot.

Stop having babies! Women: do not have babies with low life men who are violent and stupid. If you want a child, have one on your own if the father is an unstable idiot. Better yet - have an abortion.They are still legal. I know, you don't get your welfare check, but you'd have a lot better life. Also, we would not have to continuously read these horrifically sad tales of child abuse, neglect, sexual abuse and cruelty inflicted on the young and innocent every day which causes mass depression, frustration, shame and loathing - none of these are a good thing. I feel so sorry for his wife. I cannot fathom having my husband beat out newborn child to death. I wonder if he was abusing the wife too. No normal person would just snap and beat a newborn to death, no matter how frustrated they got. I bet he was violent long before the pregnancy.

Are you serious? My goodness a better place? So she was born to only be beaten to death at 2 weeks old yet she is in a better place. Never mind the pain she endured or the fact that this world lost a tiny soul who may have been the one person to cure cancer, aids,alzhiemers or any other disease.

Damn, kids can get you frustrated and babies get fussy.. but dang it all killing is not the answer. Try changing the diaper, clothes, walking, talking, playing, cuddling. Oh and there is feeding aND Teething, When all else fails change environment mood.. Add music, tv. But most importantly.. Patience will be the reward and the love will last forever. Oh and dads and moms going crazy check to see about Hypertension you could have high blood pressure. I would prefer not to read anymore sad stories that could have been averted.

Your response is as if I am defending the perpetrator. Let me set for the record - I'm not. However, an unemotional response to analyze why this guy as well as others commit such acts against babies and children. Violent knee jerk suggestions do nothing but create extra angry and violent acts by persons with such childhood history.
Only an insane person would not feel heartbroken about what happened to that 2 month old.
In addition...I do not know why color was brought to this subject. Another insanity we as a society need to work on.
