Rachel Maddow: Mitt Romney Has 'Chutzpah' To 'Take Credit' For Auto Industry Recovery (VIDEO)

WATCH: Maddow Calls Out Mitt Romney

Rachel Maddow let Mitt Romney have it on her MSNBC show Tuesday night after the GOP candidate said he would "take a lot of credit" for the auto industry recovery.

During a local news interview with Cleveland's WEWS-TV on Monday, Romney said, "I pushed the idea of a managed bankruptcy. And finally, when that was done, and help was given, the companies got back on their feet. So I'll take a lot of credit for the fact that this industry's come back."

Maddow attacked Romney for making such a statement after his 2008 call to "let Detroit go bankrupt," and continuous denouncement of President Bush and President Obama's move to bail out companies like General Motors and Chrysler.

Maddow replayed clips of Romney reinstating his position that the auto bailout was a mistake. "Turns out no," Maddow said. "They weren't a mistake. They worked. The auto industry got bailed out by the government when there was no one else on earth who could have done it. And now those companies are not only still here, they are thriving."

Maddow said that Romney had a lot of chutzpah to try to take credit for the auto industry recovery after being "that guy who said 'let Detroit go.'" She added, "He's now trying to take credit for the good done for the country by the people who had the good sense to ignore him in 2008 and 2009...Chutzpah is one word for that. There are some other words too."
